Does RTB go with a tagger?
He often has.

In 2023 when he wants one, I suspect it wil be Windy who was so good at the role this season.

Plus importantly Windy was not just a lock-down tagger, but was offensively still very productive.

Asa young mid, it will help to grow his game.
I’d prefer a tagger with a more limited skill set eg. Clint Jones.
Windhager will be one of our key mids in my opinion..perhaps Jones, Bytel or Byrnes for the tagger role?
I hear you Saintmike, but it is a very rare 19YO who can lock down a player like Neale and still win close to 20 possessions as well.
I'd love him to stay in that role in 2023 with a view to releasing him in a couple of seasons time.

I'm really keen to see Owens get good time on ball as I believe he has the tools to be the best of the 2021 draftees.

Wilkie, Howard, Paton
Coffield, Battle, Clark
Hill, Steele, McKenzie
Higgins, Hayes, Membrey
Gresh, King, Jones
Marshall, Crouch, Sinclair

Windhager, Wood, Ross, NMW

Lots of run in that team both offensive and defensive

Clinton Jones did not have a limited skill set.

Firstly he won a lot of his own ball. Many pure taggers do not.

Now yes he had a very awkward looking kicking style, and was not the best kick but it was ok effectiveness as he knew his limits.
The rest of his game was good. Very good tackler. Very quick.

Playing someone like Byrnes, means leaving out a good player from the 23. So while he could tag, I certainly do not have Byrnes in my best 23.

The beauty of Windy is that he can tag OR play pure midfield. And we know that he is going to only get better and better.

Bytel is yes a maybe too. So agree there.

Now with Jones, his greatest asset and benefit to the team is his pace. Playing him as a tagger will not exploit his greatest asset as much as other roles. Also with Jones he is not a lock for our best 23 (if all are fit) and he will need to be a good form to squeeze in. He needs to rediscover his pre-2022 form. Windy and Owens will be looking to be in the 23.

There is going to be fierce competition, and as I am more concerned about 2024 on, I am hoping that RTB will play each week some of our younger players like Windy, Owens, Bytel, Nasiah, Sharman and Byrnes too. Plus a few games for our draftees to give them a taste. Though not all will make it every game. Of the younger ones Windy is the player I deem most likely to play each week. The Poo is physically still lacking, but I expect that they will give him some games, even if it is as the tactical sub.

Poo as the tactical sub is a good fit, as he can cover a variety of roles.

Sinclair to play HB

Can swap with Jones, Clark if they are not getting the job done.

But Sinclair is an A Grade half back - we need A graders

Steele is an A Grade mid
Marshall an A Grade Ruck

King and A Grade forward

Wilkie an A Grade defender

plenty will be pushing for A grade under RTB
Paton as small defender
Higgins and Gresham as small forwards
Hill on wing
Membrey can't be far off A grade as a mobile third forward

where's this sudden love for jones come from? doubt he'll even play. just because rtb wants a fast team doesn't mean it's the first criteria he's using.

Connelly will struggle to get into the team.
How will Connolly go ?
Not very well, will most likely be de listed at end of 23.

on the basis of what? one good game against freo? plays mid, averages 18 touches a game, and suddenly he's our star small forward?
