Round Three, 2022 v Richmond.

Post: # 1989648Post shanegrambeau »

A stunning turnaround from midway through the third quarter.

Richmond a bit understrength, but St Kilda just went into hyper-mode in that third quarter.

If you stop the game midway through the second, and pick it up midway through the third, St Kilda are on rocket fuel.

What did Ratts put on the Weeties at halftime?

Fair dinkum, we worried a lot about intensity in ‘22, particularly post bye, but here it is just insane.

What do you put it down to? And what the heck happened?

If you see Richmond games from that time, they were wrong footed on fitness and continually performed badly in the second half of games. So, st kilda’s fitness at that point was quite good.

Good point axc!

Fitness!

But I still notice a striking intensity and manic drive in that third quarter..

The first quarter was remarkable for being clean and fast with 12 goals scored by both teams..
Also incredible.
The second quarter tightened up and when Richmond got to 25 pts up in the the third ya think we are cooked…but no!

Remarkable!

Edit
Points to just how finely balanced this whole thing is, and how remarkably skilled and focused the players are. Maybe Round Three is the pinnacle?

We had Ryder and Marshall - plus Gresham

The costly game was in the conditions v Port Adelaide in Queensland

Bit of a difference between Docklands and the conditions in Queensland for that game

So we can only win indoor

Port had exactly the same conditions

Weak excuse

Port didn't play that great either, plus they made a medical sub at half-time which was very questionable under the rule.
Personally, I didn't have a problem with the med-sub and all the AFL had to do to tighten it up is to add the rule that if a player is subbed out, he doesn't play the following week.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.
