Betting Scandal- Police involved
SEN just dropped this on twitter.
Brownlow betting- this year's one.
Several people are 'helping cops with their inquiries'
An umpire is one of them.
Items seized- mobile phones, electronic items.
Cops aren't saying how many matches or which matches are involved.
They are stressing that it's not match fixing etc but purely 'distribution of information' where somebody has told a group of associates some priviledged info.
Like, maybe the ump told his mate/relative about the votes in a game or games, and the mate has texted others.
Or the ump texted others in whatsapp group or something.
Anyway, the AFL Integrity Commission (which operates like North Korea's Information Ministry) is in the loop so we can be sure The Kremlin is having hot and feverish meetings about how to defuse this.
Scandal/corruption SOP is
Keep it all in-house (cops involved, so cat outta the bag)
Hide/destroy evidence
Deny everything
Find a scapegoat
This is a distraction from the Hawks' racism thing

The AFL should get on the front foot and announce a review to get the sheeple to look the other way.

Makes me wonder about the timing of the Magic Round announcement the other day.
Cops+AFL been working on this betting for ages.
AFL goes public with extra SA round next year to create a buzz

Re: Betting Scandal- Police involved
I'm confused.
Did it come out today because they wanted to distract from the Hawthorn racism story that we haven't heard about for weeks?
Or did they announce magic round a couple of days ago because they knew this story would break today?
Or is it just a story that broke today?

No reason to think they wouldn't influence results for a suitable fee either.

Re: Betting Scandal- Police involved
Herald Sun on twitter has done up a list of games that Michael Pell umpired.
He did Saints v GC where the votes were
3 Higgins
2 Steele
3 Touk Miller
Pell did 17 games.
One Power game, apparently Conor Rozee got all 10 coaches' votes, but Karl Amon polled 3...not sure how many Brownlow votes Rozee got though.
The Hun (Herald Sun) revkons Pell will be stood down.
Weird, because Rd 1 2023 is 5 months away.
Maybe umps are still training, running etc, and he'll be banned from hanging out with the other umps

It's just a surname- Stevie Johnson and Brad Johnson (former Dog) aren't related.
Jamie Cripps (drafted by us then went to Meth Coast) isn't related to Patrick Cripps (illegal winner of 2022 Brownlow)

Curly's gone out for beer and popcorn.
He's watching this unfold like the first movie in the Matrix trilogy (ok, there were 4).
We don't know where this is going, it's totally unfamiliar, but just like The Matrix, we've had the feeling we've been lied to all along, and the gaslighters have tried to cover up everything

Need to review the dissent rule and the start of consideration of captain's challenges for key decisions.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Mon 14 Nov 2022 8:52pm No reason to think they wouldn't influence results for a suitable fee either.
Inevitable corruption given the amount of betting, but a sad day for the sport now there is no doubt umpires cheat (if there was any).
Tough PR exercise for AFL - don't abuse umps, only a few are corrupt, so don't generalise, a one of incident. Sure.
Could cause crowd riots in a close Pies/Richmond game; I think we will be ok, have been conditioned to being shafted over the years so we are more grudgingly accepting. And the media tell us its what we deserve.
Another feather in Gill's sad legacy.

What about the game where Tom Hawkins argued with the ump, but got no 50 for dissent...was it a final?Yorkeys wrote: ↑Tue 15 Nov 2022 8:10amNeed to review the dissent rule and the start of consideration of captain's challenges for key decisions.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Mon 14 Nov 2022 8:52pm No reason to think they wouldn't influence results for a suitable fee either.

Umps are protected species- this betting thing has blackened all of them now.
They're all corrupt, in my view

I wonder how much money the umps made from the premeditated "Whispers in the Sky" rigged game?
