You've told us maybe a year or 2 ago, that you had a limited edition RX8.
I think you took ages to decide to buy it but Mrs Saynta convinced you to buy it?

You have a good memory. Still got it too, It's parked next to the GTS Monaro which is my current project.

Love driving the rotary.
My first car was an RX3 4 door. Great car, wish I had it now $$$

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Feel for you mate. I have three cars , all of which are either maintaining their value or increasing it.

On a side note, one white, one red and one black.

Check out this car you petrol heads.

This is completely legit..a real car.

A bloody HJ HX Holden, sold in Japan as a Mazda with a rotary 13B in it! Actually made from the factory and sold in showrooms.

Can you believe?

Problem was when his (GT's) game style was broken down by opponents he couldn’t tactically work out where it was going wrong or how to fix it
...
How so?

What aspects of his game plan broke down?
His win/loss was close to 70% three years running. That is as good as Geelong's now.

It is true that perhaps '04 was the peak, but we were very competitive in '05 and '06.

I don't have any probs with how it went down, but I wonder how his game-day tactics were flawed. I heard Brereton say he was a very difficult coach to coach against, which intrigued me - and suggested that he wasn't orthodox. Maybe he had some novelty to his moves..which ultimately became too obvious because they were uniquely signature GT moves?
Grant coached fast shot gun footy
Worked well for a while but we’ll known that against sides who didn’t allow shoot out footy (Swans s as n example) it struggled
He tried to add a defensive side to the game plan late but it was too late and I’m not really sure it was his style
When did Dermott Brereton coach and AFL side against Thomas??
Brereton really isn’t a flash student of the game btw….highly over sells complexity abd it often ends with a story of how tough he was in 89…

Isn’t that fast shot gun footy what Richmond and Melbourne played?

Grant got close

Was beaten by eventual premiers

His style suited the player on his list

Too one sided and lacked flexibility.

Another weakness was that they couldn’t adapt to the flood or most out of the box tactics teams threw at them.

A master coach would have fixed up the defensive side of the team without sacrificing too much of the attacking element.

Harder said than done.

????
Defence???

2006
Season GT was sacked.
We had 100 points kicked against us four times for the entire season, including the finaL!
..and we lost one of those by 4 points. 122 vs 118

I don’t understand!!
Non-comprende…!!

Compresso/Expresso!

Good defence!

Edit: OK , maybe you are talking about the defensive side of mid-field and forwards?

…including the final..😂

You’re quite brilliant, SHANE.

How did this compare against other teams?

What was the %?

The defensive set up was lame.

Easy Shanus….eeaazzy.

We were 3rd on the ladder in Points Against!

% around 120..

We were a great defensive team.

Not against those that counted.

Need to break down those numbers further.

Obviously a few blowouts there against weaker teams.

It looks like the decision to sack Grant Thomas was made long before that final. I wonder when. I wonder why (I mean the rationale) Obviously GT is/was a hard personality to stomach in the political/football/media milieu - not easy on the eye. Luke Ball was captain in 2006. Must have been about 23/24.

Coach and President had a falling out over a debt. I thought everyone knew that.

Read about it later, much later. Didn't know it was 2006 mid-season and the direct cause of the sacking. Obviously an unhealthy situation.

GT was sacked right after the Elimination Final loss to Melbourne from memory.

I hadn’t ever thought of Thomo as a defensive genius so I’ll just take your word for it, Shane.
