But the essence was, he turned up for pre-season training having enjoyed too much Xmas turkey and fruit mince pies, and lacking condition- Lyon looked at him and said 'you're finished' or something
I guess RL wanted to send a message but still… running him into the ground for 6 weeks pbly could have achieved the same outcome
Lyon, Rooey, Joey talking about it n laughing the whole time.
Lyon's 1st day.
Ross said 'light run, 20 mins, come back into Linton St'
Joey n Rooey said whole group (minus one) came back (it was easy pace) and 43 guys doing a lap of oval, about to cross finish line, when Troy just entered oval alone, to begin that lap.
Rooey thinking 'he's not well?'
Then later in arvo, doing weights in gym, Schwartz comes into gym, says 'guys, I've been delisted'
The FB post has a post from Troy himself.
'I was pretty upset at the time, Ross just got up and left the meeting'

Didn't RL day something like not enough meat and potato?

As I remember it, the meat and potato quote came from an interview where RL was asked about how he was going to try to address the issue we had in 2005/6 and going back earlier, where players were breaking down with hamstring/lower back injuries. This basically cruelled our 2005 and 2006 finals campaigns.sunsaint wrote: ↑Sat 08 Oct 2022 7:06pm Didn't RL day something like not enough meat and potato?

His quote was that the players weren't doing the basic strength and conditioning exercises, such as squats (and maybe deadlifts?), in their strength programs, and they needed to do more weights focused on core strength so they wouldn't keep breaking down.
Does anybody here have a link to that interview?

In 2009, RL insisted on conservative managment of soft tissue stuff..(interesting segue into Luke Ball at Sandy too )samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 09 Oct 2022 10:07amAs I remember it, the meat and potato quote came from an interview where RL was asked about how he was going to try to address the issue we had in 2005/6 and going back earlier, where players were breaking down with hamstring/lower back injuries. Goddard and few other senior players at the time should have got behind the coach and we may have been playing finals in the following couple of years. Goddard was shopping himself around for big bucks for a while, so it's pretty rich to complain about club culture.sunsaint wrote: ↑Sat 08 Oct 2022 7:06pm Didn't RL day something like not enough meat and potato?

Ya know, I wouldn’t necessarily call Goddard Mr. Money Bags or a hypocrite. I don’t know the general or specific stuff, but wouldn’t it be fair to say his manager started seeing big bucks after that 2010 GF grab?
Boy did BJs form fall away with St Kilda thereafter. There was a time he was one of the best kicks in the league. Within a season of that grab, he couldn’t make the distance from 40 and is penetration and accuracy was completely shot.
Unfortunate timing I would say.
I’d say we did have a great culture in pure footy terms from 2002-2012. Off field, things deteriorated big time and some of that West Coast party/ bad boy culture and the general culture as footy Boganville moved from HJ Panel vans, the Murray and a carton on Coopers to BMWs, Cocaine and Las Vegas.
But we were injury prone, I think in part, because we were so fit and committed.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

If Raph couldn’t watch an AFL game for so long after being dismissed is such a disrespectful manner, I hope he never ventured onto Saintsational.
