Stocker and Dow
Any interest?
Stocker would be a DFA - a First Round Pick initially that Carlton swapped into
Dow - a former high pick, hasn’t worked at Carlton- needs a change
On former high picks not getting a gig
Weideman - Melbourne
McAsey - Adelaide
Any others???

Re: Stocker and Dow
Just saw this, excuse my post in other thread. I would imagine we'd have spots after a few retirements/delistings, not sure why we wouldn't look at both of them knowing players develop differently and clearly were rated highly for a reason.

If they can't make it at their existing clubs IMO can't see them blooming at St.Kilda but hey nothing ventured nothing gained

Is there a limit to how many free agents you can take in one trade period?

Re: Stocker and Dow
I heard someone suggesting on SEN that Weideman would make a good key back.
Obviously doesn't get much of a look in at Melbourne with May and Lever.
Serviceable ruckman also

Re: Stocker and Dow
The only one I’d look at in that group is McAsey.
Sandringham boy, big, athletic and has had a few injuries.
Still young enough to develop.

Re: Stocker and Dow
They're both interesting cases. Dow looked like a gun explosive mid as a junior but hasn't been able to put it together at Carlton. He's still only 22 though and I'd be fine with getting him for free. Stocker also has some good qualities but seemingly has physical limitations. Also only 22 years old but if his best position is in defence then he'd struggle to get close to our starting 22.
Would happily take Dow for a token late pick swap, probably pass on Stocker.

Not sure if other teams rejects is what’s going to catapult us into the top 4

Re: Stocker and Dow
Stocker has major attitude issues and the players at Carlton couldn't stand him.
Dow has had 5 years to get into that team. He's no better than Bytel. Poor disposal.

No to all
Weideman probably the most upside/ talent however every Melbourne person says lazy, ball hits ground non competitive and moved off the ball too easy yet hasn't got stronger.

Re: Stocker and Dow
LOL - spots on the list - so according to Saintsational - and those that SHOULD be delisted - about 35

Re: Stocker and Dow
At least in the 80’s the Carlton rejects that came our way had tasted success and had decent careers behind them.

Re: Stocker and Dow
Exactly. The lack of awareness in this space is mindblowing.
DFA’s often represent really good value. We’re probably paying Mason Wood about $120,000 and he’s cracked our best 22 after being delisted by the worst team in the AFL and thinking he’d never play footy again.
Value is wherever you find it. DFAs often represent a very cost effective way to upgrade your list with minimal outlay.
They’re not going to win you a flag but that isn’t the point.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: Stocker and Dow
The AFL should consider giving clubs who have spent a certain amount of time in the bottom 8 extra spots on their list to allow more recycling. It might balance up the system that allows teams like Geelong and Richmond access to elite FAs while in their premiership window.
Balance it up in a way that doesn't cost the poorer clubs that much relatively speaking.

Just Googled Chris McAsey who played one match in 1983.
