Sam Weideman
Word on the grapevine is we’re interested in acquiring him as a forward who can pinch hit in the ruck.
No doubt he would come cheap as chips.
Thoughts?

Re: Sam Weideman
Couple of things:
1. Is contracted
2. He has been scoping property on the Gold Coast
If cheap, yes!
As long as we don't get bent over.

Re: Sam Weideman
Grab him if there aren't any other better options.
Our forward line is desperately calling out for a second tall and whilst he is an underwhelming candidate beggers can't be choosers.

Re: Sam Weideman
I would rather Ratogulea but if we cant pry him out of Geelong, Weideman would be the next best option. Weideman was the main ruckman for Casey during their finals and did a really good job. So he could definitely play that 2nd ruckman at the next level.

Hayes has a big upside compared to Weideman and Cordy. He covers more territory, gains more possessions and is a better all-round footballer.

Re: Sam Weideman
Weideman may still be a good foil for King as he has height and has kicked a bags of 3 and 4
He has a decent leap and set of hands but he needs to put on some muscle/size

Re: Sam Weideman
The Weed seems like a pretty ordinary player. Has never kicked 20 goals in a season and couldn't establish himself as a starting forward in a side with a dominant midfield. Not sure he offers much more than Sharman or Hayes.

Re: Sam Weideman
I think he would be very good at CHF if he's given a season there. He has good hands and is a nice kick.

Our list beyond 10 to 12 is very average so it's a question of what number does he come in at....probably would sit at 16th to 22 best player on our list where as he is probably 21 to 26 on the Deea list.
Sharman is in the 30s on our list so Sam would improve our list on that basis, however does it improve our list to allow us to become a top 4 side....NO. But Sam would be an improvement and as I keep saying about our current plight...."beggers can't be choosers".

Re: Sam Weideman
Melbourne selected Sam Weideman pick 9 in 2015 so obviously has talent, just hasn't managed to develop to achieve his potential. On the basis that he could thrive at another club, if the price is right I'd be in favour as support for Max King.
Expect Demons will demand at minimum a 2nd round pick, which makes it unlikely as Gallagher has made it clear the club is determined to focus on using their picks to recruit in the November draft. Perhaps if Saints get a late 2nd rdp for Ben Long it could happen.

Re: Sam Weideman
Given a opportunity to settle in on position at CHF could be very damaging it worked for Battle.
With Hayes and King surrounded by small to mid forwards getting crumbs could be very dangerous with 3 middle to big forwards Geelong go with a similar strategy and don't we copy the Premiers in what they do!
It would allow Membery to play as a loose man all over the ground and not make him play as the only other option to King.
In regards to the pick nothing more then a second rounder in the 30s or late pick and 46 still have 3 picks to use in draft, if they don't like it look at someone else like Schache out of contract, puts pressure on Melbourne.

Re: Sam Weideman
Way more than Sharman for 2023 and 2024, anyway. Sharman feels a long way off, despite some promising signs at either end.Vortex wrote: ↑Wed 05 Oct 2022 8:19amHe would certainly offer more than Sharman, no doubt about that.mad saint guy wrote: ↑Tue 04 Oct 2022 11:56pm The Weed seems like a pretty ordinary player. Can't see Sharman being a regular contributor until he's 24 or 25 (currently 22) due to his underdeveloped body. Lovely kick, great hands but lots and lots of growth in mind and body.
Weideman has kicked multiple goals on 19 occasions - I think he's going to improve again as he solidifies into his body. I'd say his best four years are ahead of him and he could be a 40+ goal per year forward if he finds a club that believes in him. If he can take some heat off Max and Membrey, I'd be all up for it.
I'd trade our third rounder (45) for him; we might even be able to get him cheaper than that (eg: pick swaps).
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
