I recall Dangerfield and Selwood played injured, Rohan didn't play and a couple of others. They were underdone in the May game.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sat 24 Sep 2022 6:20pmPretty much the same as today. It was the game at Geelong where they rested players.
We lost Higgins early and Steele did his shoulder in the 3rd I think.
The rematch in August showed their true ability when we were beaten comprehensively.

Paddy Mac /Buddy a toss up but If I was offered a contract for a 1 mil a year for 9 years I would leave too & to Buds credit he has actually completed that contract & I was a serious doubter ATT . Going around next year as well maybe not on a mil but still handy coin for a bloke at the end of his careermagnifisaint wrote: ↑Sat 24 Sep 2022 8:33pm Buddy Franklin WOG - worst on ground. Stuff this GF. I'm watching the round 9 Saints Cats game (because we were the last team to beat them).
After the game I wrote:
What I learnt:
We beat a full strength cats outfit,
We’re going to miss Ryder,
Gresham was fantastic,
Windy came on after Higgins was subbed out half way through the second quarter and played great,
Billing’s was good,
No Butler playing and Higgins was injured so no real small forwards and yet we won,
We missed McKenzie,
Sinclair was fantastic.
I forgot to add that Sharman was good up forward.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

So what happened in the return game where they also rested players?
Why did we lose to so many inferior teams below us in the second half of the season?
As in another thread, Geelong are many miles ahead of our club. That's fact.

So why feel the need to denigrate what was a great performance by us?
You seem happy enough to 'pot' us whenever you get an opportunity.
Surely you can be gracious enough to laud a good performance without putting on unwarranted caveats?
You appear happier 'bagging' the Club rather than applauding good efforts/performances
I might be wrong, but I don't recall you making complimentary posts when we were 8-3 at the halfway mark.

A football match is always analyzed at the final siren, not on the first half.
Tell that line of thinking to the Melbourne supporters at the end of this 2022 season, even though the 2021 Flag is already locked away in their trophy cabinet for eternity.
No more excuses for this club. Perennial underperformers is what the rest of the AFL supporters think of St Kilda.

They were
Hugh Goddard - first round slider
For a soft, lazy, inconsistent tall
We thought Pick 21 for Stanley was overs and when we snared Goddard!… we thought we’d won the lottery!!!
Short memory?
Goddard played 10 average games
Stanley nearly 200 and a premiership

Stick to my point of discussion rather than taking a snipe.
It's not made up mate. They did have underdone players and in any case, if we were so worthy, why did we have our pants pulled down In the return game?
Winners are grinners and Geelong are clearly miles ahead of us. They beat us, their A-game is much better and they trumped the competition where and when it mattered.

Billing’s first game back so he was underdone.
Steele went off injured.
Geelong clearly the superior team of the season. It doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good performance on the day.

Exactly.
I actually don’t understand the mindset that refuses to admit that the team performed well when they did.
It doesn’t mean they achieved what they should have for the season, but there seems to be some sort of desperate need to disparage any good performance.

This is plainly not true.
Yes Geelong are a better team than us, I'm not sure who you are arguing against on that point. But why are you trying to downplay what was a very good win for us?

Also Hickey and Stanley would easily be the worst ever starting rucks in a Grand Final.
