Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
For helping to steer the club through troubled waters. At least that is what the club is saying:

100% thanks Matt, off field you have set the club up to be well placed for the future. I didnt agreed with a lot of your earlier Football Dept appointments and that has been a slow turning wheel, but hopefully the club are finally on their way now.

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Finnis came to St Kilda at a time when we needed stability and someone with a steady hand to steer the club away from the rocks ...... and he has done a sterling job
The trick now is to have or find someone who can take the club to the next level ..... now that we have that stable base

Look forward to his memoirs. Like to know why such an excellent manager extended Richo. Thought process? - keep a dud versus a selection process where odds are you would have to do better than let the football program go down the gurgler.

Would you rather we be at Seaford?
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Seaford didn’t bother me a bit… it was a training ground
I couldn’t care if they trained at Timbuktu if the facility was ok
Would you preferred they stayed at Moorabbin in 2010 in a condemned dump?
F*** me, it was 20 mins away
Melbourne train at Cranbourne
Essendon at Tullamarine
Hawthorn at Waverley
All left the spiritual home bulls***, and it doesn’t bother their supporters
We just look for any pathetic excuse
I’m glad we are back at Moorabbin, but that’s because of facilities upgrade
Otherwise, I couldn’t GAF where we train… I don’t think that’s at all important
In my mind
Moorabbin hasn’t been our home ground since 92
Marvel has been our home since 2000

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Finnis was fkn shithouse.
Yes we get back to Moorabbin which is better than Seaford), but what else?
No finals (except * year)
No major long term sponsors (they flip flop compared to other clubs)
What exactly has he done for 10 years….????
Just a list of causes that do absolutely nothing to push us towards a flag.
Hopefully Geoff Walsh comes in to get away from most of that, straighten us up, put more money, effort and attention towards drafting and development.
Most importantly, he is strong in doing so and if it upsets the apple cart then good. Too many had it to good for far too long.
Don’t get me started on Lethlean now reviewing his old position as part of the overall review. WTF!!!

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Imagine what it would be if we made the finals once in a while. The extra cats/swans clothing sold in the last 2 days from all the stalls at the MCG would make a huge difference, let alone the other money making ventures (membership, corporate suites, sponsorship)
Maybe I’m too damn picky, but isn’t everyone else sick and tired of it being Geelong, Sydney and everyone else for that matter?
Continually shooting ourselves in the foot just won’t cut it anymore. It’s taken Bassett a few years, but maybe….just maybe the penny has dropped with him and he can really take charge and use his clout to get some s*** done.

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
I’m amazed that people on here, who really have in all likelihood done not much in there life, never held a position like Finnis, are so critical.
Small minded individuals, the only thing big that they have is their overinflated egos.
What legacy have you left?

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
People conveniently forget Finnis was put there by the AFL because he (and Lethlean) for that matter were no good at their AFL roles and the AFL had to find a job for them.happy feet wrote: ↑Fri 23 Sep 2022 11:35pm I’m amazed that people on here, who really have in all likelihood done not much in there life, never held a position like Finnis, are so critical.

Easy….St Kilda because there will be no resistance given debt and essentially owned by the AFL to do whatever they say.
Thus why I’ve stressed many times the need for a profitable business model, get rid of debt ASAP.
At least control what we can control off field.
Surely that is possible? Otherwise, what is the point of just “existing”

Someone crunched the numbers years ago when the AFL officially bought Marvel stadium and changed the stadium deal. If we had the same then that we do now with the same results/crowds…Annoyedsaint wrote: ↑Fri 23 Sep 2022 11:34pmImagine what it would be if we made the finals once in a while. Instead of being in $12-15m debt (whatever it was), we’d be like $500k in profit.
We just need some success onfield now and things will turn around quickly

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Completely understand the stadium deal was a joke and didn’t help things, meaning the AFL was obliged in a way to keep us afloat. But one day that will end and we need to be able to stand on our own and grow and the only way that will happen is on field success.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 24 Sep 2022 12:06amSomeone crunched the numbers years ago when the AFL officially bought Marvel stadium and changed the stadium deal. If only you'd have agreed to a smaller contract. You might have won us a flag out of Frankston. You legend.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 23 Sep 2022 11:03pm Seaford didn’t bother me a bit… it was a training ground

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Thankfully he has gone.
Led us during the a remarkably insignificant period and apart from introducing gender neutral toilets I don’t think he left any legacy at all.
Let’s hope Lethlean focuses on winning games of football and we move on from the Finnis years very quickly.

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
Desperation? Personal? Lol. It was humour. The fact you take it personally just adds to the humour.
It's a historical fact, that they players, THE PLAYERS, didn't like Frankston.
Finnis provided a solution and got us back to Moorabbin, your opinion is completely irrelevant in terms of the reason and the result.
So it was a major thing for Finnis to achieve and it is relevant to the debt, which will be turned around 10 fold by the value and standard of the facility we have now.
You do know that outside of this fan forum, your opinion is just like everyone else's. Irrelevant.

Re: Thank You, Matt Finnis! 🙏
At least get your facts right.
We wiped 4.2m off our debt last year and we're on track to do a similar this year.
As it stands our debt in our last financial report was $9,562,300 not 12m
Now that our big expenses are gone and we have got rid of the terrible tenancy contract we had with Marvel we're tracking to de debt free within a few years and with some very substantial assets such as the DFC, RSEA park etc.
Finnis has done a great job.
