Membrey is a bit of a surprise at 4. Didn’t have a bad year by any means but I don’t know that I’d have him up that high. I’d swap him and Crouch around.
Skunk has impact on games. Crouch racks up a lot of insignificant touches. He has his strengths and he has had games where he impacts as well as getting lots of touches, but I think disposal numbers without taking into account disposal efficiency is lazy voting. I often gave Crouch 1 vote or 2 votes when most people on this forum gave him best on ground
There wan interesting conversation on a thread that popped up on a search I just did and B.M gave his personal votes for the Saintsational Eastern Memorial Player of the year award and then admitted that the coaches would probably vote differently because Crouch didn’t ‘impact’ the game as much as Marshall or Steele
In the above link, Crouch had huge numbers, but if you break down each clearance and each disposal and marry that up with impact and whether there was a positive outcome for the team, it brought his overall efficiency back down to an average level in my opinion.
I actually started a theme going back several years where I would criticise Seb Ross’s ball use. I think sometimes players who do not ‘care’ whether their disposal hits a team mate, could be more detrimental to a team than the bloke who doesn’t get their hands on the footy enough. It’s a selfish way of playing footy.
I personally think it’s how you use the footy that is more important than how many times you touch it.
Yeah I’ve followed the commentary here and don’t get me wrong… intent wasn’t to pump up Crouch or detract from Membrey who is a fantastic player and arguably has a claim to the captaincy… I’m just a touch surprised that he polled that highly. I thought he was a bit down this year compared to previous seasons which have been excellent and I feel like he had a few lean patches where goals where hard to come by (a run of 2g in 4 games and another with 1 in 3).
No doubt however that Membrey’s contribution extends beyond goals as he pushes up the ground and does the team things but I still reckon Crouch had a few more bigger games or close to BOG performances even if his effectiveness is down.
Again just off a vibe from having watched games and not gone back… I pbly would have had Ross ahead of Membrey and would have picked King as having had a better season.
Happy to be wrong… just surprised me. Membrey must have been more prevalent than I realised

Crouch had an excellent year
As did Membrey, again
Steele surprised me… missed 6 and I thought he was just ok… compared to the previous 2 years
I thought Steele was particularly average especially after he returned from injury. He looked incredibly slow.
I'm pretty sure he came back too quick. Probably, for the sake of the club and whining f****** supporters
I'd hate for all our whining that that is the first thing they take notice of and act on.
What more would you like Jack to do?
I think you're aiming that at the wrong person.
Mine was a commentary about him returning because supporters were "whining" - silly if true & sillier that for all the whining St Kilda supporters do, Jack returning before time is what they take notice of.

But, for a few ill directed kicks, some untimely injuries, and a little bit of fixture 'luck', our season could have been Collingwood and Collingwood could have had ours.
The drama and whining, is not support. Comments about Steele's finish to the season, show lack of character in the author, rather than the player and his efforts and commitment to winning us a flag.
I'm not expecting a flag, but I'm sure we are closer to improving, than we are in regressing to the bottom of the ladder. We are closer to being a successful club than we have been for long time. The fall out from the Lyon era just proves that.

You spent time around clubs before, since when is honest and objective observation not appropriate, especially with leaders. Jack would be the first to admit his performances were well down in the second half of the season and without using injury as an excuse.

One area where Membrey would have rated was playing four full quarters. In a team that often appeared to only play one decent quarter in many matches Membrey was running out the last quarter of most games with the same intensity as his first.
Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Oh. Then I highly doubt anyone with any credibility, from within the club, criticised Jack's season at all. He is still better than most with only one arm fully functioning.
If it was difficult to see he was on the needle when he came back from AC surgery, then I'd recommend Specsavers. Was there risk of reinjury, probably not, but soreness is not easy to play through.

Lol. I think we both agree that the AFL is financially sound, even after COVID, and are back making billions. But Steele was courageous, inspirational and selfless, in the 2nd half.

Yeah, we got big issues huh when a busted up player playing at reduced capacity is one of our better players.

Off on a bit of a tangent there Benny Boy.
No mate. You pointed out my credibility, I did the same. You've been around forums long enough, I'm assuming, to know how that works. Lol.
