Going well at Sandy is no great indication of how good you are, they were ordinary side for most of the year

Re: Leo Connolly
It doesn't, you're right.
But it offers at least some credence for my respect for his abilities and attributes.

Agreed with all this.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Tue 06 Sep 2022 4:39pm Ratten values foot skills, so it was odd that Connolly didn't get a run. Jake Batchelor's input into selection was surely a factor.
I agree. If players have elite capabilities, in this case foot skills, then those qualities should be exploited rather than focussing on the negatives. The coach was happy to overlook Brad Hill's lack of tackling pressure, Paton's iffy disposal and decision making and King's poor goal kicking.
Playing at Sandy is not exactly beneficial to player development, nor does it allow players to show their value in a higher tempo, higher quality of game.

Re: Leo Connolly
Leo was competing for a half back position? Competition was an All Australian, an Indigenous All Star and Jimmy Webster/Highmore. After the feted first two Jimmy was clearly preferred and perhaps Highmore seen as providing defensive flexibility, possibly a trade off between Tom's intercept marking and Leo's speed and kicking. Well that got us to 10th with a bullet. Still not sure what Jimmy's comparative advantage strengths are, tries hard, but so do others. Experienced but not often Sainter of the Week contender. Leo deserves a go in '23 because same old same old didn't cut it.

Re: Leo Connolly
Leo is an exquisite kick, many before him have mastered the same skill but not the many other skills required to become an AFL player. He is very poor defensively, is too outside and although he kicks really well his decision making with his kicks are poor with repeated attempts to pull the trigger on a bullet pass to the opposition's advantage.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Thu 08 Sep 2022 1:26pm Leo was competing for a half back position? The fact he came 2nd to Campbell in the Sandy B&F in an incredibly poor side in an incredibly poor comp should tell you he currently has no place on an AFL field.

Should the team apologise or just Leo?

Not quite.
Delist Sharman after 7 games
Clearly not up to it.
That’s your plan Nostradamus

Re: Leo Connolly
Delisting Sharman would be silly, his natural forward line running patterns and clutch goals are going to be required in our backline.

Re: Leo Connolly
Not at all, I'm pretty certain Ratts has rightfully put Sharman in the highly unlikely project player, break glass in case of emergency only category.Teflon wrote: ↑Fri 09 Sep 2022 10:20amSo now you’re criticising the coach?Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 09 Sep 2022 9:38amDelisting Sharman would be silly, his natural forward line running patterns and clutch goals are going to be required in our backline.

It's probably why Bing doesn't want to come to us, he'd be worried Sharman would keep him out of the team.

Re: Leo Connolly
You rate Leo because he can kick?
Takes a bit more than that to be a senior AFL footballer
We need players who can play!
