Player Grades 2022
Open it up for discussion but here are my player grades for the 2023 season.
I have used the mark of what i would have thought was the general expectation from the player for the year and where the performance actually was. 1-Well below, 2-below, 3-Expected level, 4-above, 5-Well above.
Coffied N/A inj
Jones 2
Gresham 2
Crouch 4
Ross 4
NWM 4

Obviously its based on how i rated players before hand also, e.g wasn't a huge McKenzie, Wood or Long fan at the start of the year. Expected more from the likes of Brynes, Highmore, Billings and Jones. Expected some development from Allison.

Re: Player Grades 2022
Can't argue with that. Pretty much my thoughts, with these exceptions:
Jones 1
Billings 1
Byrnes 1
These guys didn't get anywhere near the level expected.
Highmore 4 - Had a very good season for Sandy, didn't get what he deserved.
Campbell 4 - Same as Highmore.
Peris 4 - Not saying he had a massive year, just pleasantly surprised by what he continually showed. He'll be judged by this level next season.

Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

Re: Player Grades 2022
I’d give Ross a 5…
Thought that was his best year by a long way outside of his B&F seasons
Gresh I thought was maybe a touch tough. I’d have gone a 3. Was good and then faded before injury.
He’s one play who I think would really benefit from being rested the odd week or 2 throughout the year. Emerging pattern seems to be that he starts well then fades.

Pretty fair assessment but I'd give Wilke a 5older saint wrote: ↑Fri 26 Aug 2022 2:25pm Open it up for discussion but here are my player grades for the 2023 season.

Re: Player Grades 2022
He's only slight and first year against men. Cat B isn't he? I think a good development year going into another pre season. Has shown enough in my opinion.

Good chance to win the grand final sprint if the Saints enter him.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 27 Aug 2022 11:44amHe's only slight and first year against men. Cat B isn't he? I think a good development year going into another pre season. Has shown enough in my opinion.

Re: Player Grades 2022
Differences for me would be-
King 3. I don't believe he performed above expectations.
Marshall 2. Had a disappointing year compared to the lofty heights he has reached previously. Maybe partly due to carrying an injury.
Higgins 2. I thought he was disappointing at times to what he has shown in the past.
Webster3. Maybe even a 2. Still disappoints me with his erratic disposal. Fortunate he had no one challenging for his spot.

Re: Player Grades 2022
Giving Hayes a 5, based on his four and a half games before injury as opposed to a 2 for Hannebury for his 2.75 appears to lack objectivity to me. More a case of low expectations v over expectations.

Re: Player Grades 2022
Do you watch any of the games - behind Windhager & Owens he showed the most of any of our other kids. He had some rippin games and I'm confident he'll make a quality AFL player.

I wouldn’t call Bytel a kid but I’m not sure that Peris showed more than NWM.saynta wrote: ↑Sun 28 Aug 2022 12:05pmJack Bytel say hello.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 27 Aug 2022 10:21pmDo you watch any of the games - behind Windhager & Owens he showed the most of any of our other kids. Re: Player Grades 2022
Exactly what this was about. To me I had Hayes as a Sandy player who may play a little if injuries piled up. The fact he not only played 4 games but contributed in those games was well above expectations.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sat 27 Aug 2022 7:51pm Giving Hayes a 5, based on his four and a half games before injury as opposed to a 2 for Hannebury for his 2.75 appears to lack objectivity to me. Hannebery i had expectations to get at least 1/3rd of the seasons games out of him. While he performed well in the 2.75 games he played mean in my eyes he under performed badly.
