Honest question about HTB
What is the difference between:
- Spinning someone around and they lose possession (HTB); and
- Tackling someone in tight and the ball gets knocked out (Play on)??
In my mind:
- Have Ball
- Get tackled
- Don't handball or kick
- Incorrect disposal (HTB)

Re: Honest question about HTB
Depends on what the umpire sees
Who the player is
What club they play for
Where they are playing
Who the player is
What club they play for
Where they are playing

Re: Honest question about HTB
Prior opportunity is supposed to be the difference. But not stopping running teams with ugly old ball pressure is more important to the AFL.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sat 13 Aug 2022 5:36pm What is the difference between:

Re: Honest question about HTB
All about prior opp. IF they havent had prior opp and get tackled they need to TRY to dispose of it and if in trying the ball comes free /dropped spill it should be play onSainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sat 13 Aug 2022 5:36pm What is the difference between:

IF they have had prior opp then they must correctly dispose of the ball immediately once tackled.
This is what the rule book says, what the umpires determine is completely different. Daniher lying on the ball an the umpire wants his "me " moment waits an eternity to call holding the ball- in fact so long a brisbane guy grabs it out of his hand and it is play on.
as mentioned if you name is Dangerfield, Martin, Petracca etc you are allowed to spin for some time until you have to get rid of it. If you are a first year player or average AFL player immediate has a different definition.

If you grab the ball out of the hands of a team mate then that is incorrect disposal.older saint wrote: ↑Sun 14 Aug 2022 3:51pm This is what the rule book says, what the umpires determine is completely different. Re: Honest question about HTB
I believe that is correct although again clealry ok on Friday. They decided in the first qtr to pay nothing or very little 2 frees for the whole qtr. Then they changed after that. Must be so frustrating for a player to think ok this is what is ok today and in 20 minutes it changesLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Sun 14 Aug 2022 4:03pmIf you grab the ball out of the hands of a team mate then that is incorrect disposal.older saint wrote: ↑Sun 14 Aug 2022 3:51pm This is what the rule book says, what the umpires determine is completely different. Re: Honest question about HTB
I notice the ball carrier sometimes allows the oppo player to pin their arms whilst arching their back, causing a two player tornado into the ground all the while holding the ball.
Ump blows whistle, it’s a ball up.
It’s almost as if the carrier wants to get trapped, particularly if he can’t see an option ahead.
Now the tackler would want to pin one the carriers arms so the other arm drops the ball.
An interesting lil tussle that I imagine is changing tactically by the month as coaches and umps play out the game…
I imagine the rules will continue to evolve here
