Zak Jones on the Outer
Ratten has really lost his patience. Jones will seriously have rethink how he approaches his football now. If NWM, Windhager, and Owens consolidate their positions over summer, and if we snare a hard running midfield type through free agency, then Zak could find himself in football's nowhere land

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
Maybe Zak hasn't recovered properly from whatever it was that made him take leave.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Thu 11 Aug 2022 7:34pm Ratten has really lost his patience. Maybe he has lost interest, whatever the reason, at the moment he is just not up to the level.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
Not sure what the story is on Jones. He can be explosive at times but poor disposal & trying to be too clever for his own good brings him undone IMO. Leave of absence for 4 or 5 weeks at the start of the year didn't help his cause but like many hasn't lived up to expectation . Players we needed to stand up to make us contenders like Jones, Billings ,Gresham ,Clark, Coffield ,Paton ,Butler ,Higgins ,Hill have either been injured , unavailable or just out of form . Too much left to too few & eventually the inevitable happens & we can't sustain a game plan that is competitive IMO anyway

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
Really thought he’d be good for us this year, but has tumbled down the pecking order. Very uninspiring, wouldn’t be too fussed if we got rid of him.

Jones is a dumb footballer..crazy eyes and rad doesn't drill a pass out of the centre down a forwards throat ever ...he can f*** off..you can't bring in guys like Jones Roughhead and Hanners and Hill who crap on how better their team environment was than ours ..too many people playing and working for pay cheques..

There seems to be an ongoing trend with imported players that come to our club.Rubyjo wrote: ↑Thu 11 Aug 2022 11:07pm Jones is a dumb footballer..crazy eyes and rad doesn't drill a pass out of the centre down a forwards throat ever ...he can f*** off..you can't bring in guys like Jones Roughhead and Hanners and Hill who crap on how better their team environment was than ours ..too many people playing and working for pay cheques..
Been happening for many years.
The thing is, they don't bring their previous standards with them.
No, they lower their standards to the cesspool level that surrounds them at Arsey-Park (Seaford before that, etc)

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
Looks a shadow of the player regularly gathering 30 + possessions last year.
Mental or physical?
Still in the right age bracket to be on the list, but has given us nothing this year.

Not sure it is not recreational (maybe meaning that he takes the job on as a hobby .... maybe not)Banger9798 wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 8:54am Looks a shadow of the player regularly gathering 30 + possessions last year.

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
This is what happens if you don't get a decent pre season and continuality on games.
From the Essendon pre seaon game when we lost Clark and Billings we've been chasing our arse.

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
I wonder if he is a downhill skier. Looks good when winning but doesn't do the "hard stuff' when things go bad.
I am a bit of a fan of what he brings as it is something we don't have - explosive pace.
How much is off field we will never know, or has he just got comfortable and bad habits.
His brother changed his game at Melbourne in the last 5 years of his career so not necessarily done with, however if he doesn't want that then may need to move on

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
IMO it’s just a fitness thing.
Yeah he had an interrupted preseason but it’s august now.
He shouldn’t have played if he was so far off the pace and instead done an extended run with Sandy + heavy fitness loading.
Playing people into fitness in the seniors simply doesn’t work. Not only to they struggle, they inevitably loses whatever confidence they had and their stocks drop markedly.
I feel like this is a mistake we just do over and over again. I swear this has been a bugbear of my since like 2006.

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
I'm sure in his first season with us, he got outside and ran more, and disposed of the ball quicker, but in the last couple of seasons he seems to get the ball then run back inboard and try and take on the tackler and doesn't get the ball away. Maybe the coach has tried to change his style, but it has backfired?

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
As I said
Decent player - should be in the seniors… easily
Ratten had no problem naming him the other week - and we all have bad days
But has not named passengers since
Double standard

Was quite good against Brisbane. I still think he could be very handy at full fitness and in a good mental space.

Re: Zak Jones on the Outer
Was good today, that aggression and pace and linking with Crouch, Hill and Sinclair has been greatly missed.
