Cripps free to play
Just in.
Cripps got off.
Grant Thomas will be happy, he went off on Twitter in support of 'eyes for the ball'
Bloody Carlton in finals.

Wow, forget the rules or head high contact, it's who has the smartest QC, that'll make you the winner on the night.
Does that mean there'll be another re-write of the rules in the off season to counteract the the smarties.

Re: Cripps free to play
What did you expect ..... its an absolute fkn farce
If it was Ben Long or Toby Greene they would have got 4 weeks
Day changes direction into Ryder who stops and braces and Ryder gets 2 weeks
Cripps jumps into the back of Ah Chee tucks his arm in and smashes into the back of his head in a non marking contest .... free to play
So much for duty of care ..... what a joke the AFL has become
Rules for some ..... Rules for others

Re: Cripps free to play
They respect the QC following process and highlighting the points of law best
When they go into a court or a tribunal it’s like sport in some ways.
Who has prepared best? Who has the answers and who can counter the other team’s strength
The lawyers come armed with their brief and the team with the strongest strategy wins the day.
St Kilda has had poor teams of lawyers going in for us and they seem to have weak strategies

Line someone up
Run at the ball
Keep EYES on the BALL
Jump at the ball with your shoulder lined up with the oppositions head
Knock them out
Don't ever say the you intended to bump
Play next week
**** Look out for a record number of concussions this week ****

Play The Cripps incident and the Ryder incident to 100 neutral fans and ask which one got suspended.
When have we ever gotten away with one?

LOL - I played the Ryder one to a Canadian visitor and his response was:Banger9798 wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 8:45am Play The Cripps incident and the Ryder incident to 100 neutral fans and ask which one got suspended.
When have we ever gotten away with one?
- Day charged Ryder
- Ryder stood his ground
- No way that is a punishable event
In basketball Day would be an offensive charge - Cripps - would be ejected

Re: Cripps free to play
AFL makes rules on the run and they have more holes in them than a screen door.
Smart legal eagles come in and pick the poorly written rules/interpretations apart and are able to get people like Cripps in this case off.
AFL tick the box if Ah Chee sues in a few years time as they reported and suspended him. He got off based on legal agreement at appeals board which the AFL are independent from , - no liability here

Re: Cripps free to play
Anyone know what technicality swung it for the Carlton lawyers?
Gee,
We all know it hurts badly cos it’s a free shot in the arm to Carlton, and like a movie Hollywood script, the hero saves the day…just as Carlton we’re going down to the tip in the back of an old Bedford.

I believe it was to do with the fact the tribunal jury was not adequately instructed.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 10:29am Anyone know what technicality swung it for the Carlton lawyers?

Re: Cripps free to play
The technicality was that Cripps was never asked, and therefore never questioned, on whether he MEANT to bump. Goes to intent and therefore gave him the excuse of 'a football act'.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 10:29am Anyone know what technicality swung it for the Carlton lawyers?
This is why I feel a slippery slope coming - if a smart coach says run through the player in a 'football act' deny it was your intent - we may have 4 players 'excluded' because of COVID - and also for the following week.
Hmmm - No teams in the 8 are playing teams they may compete against in the finals in the next 2 weeks are there??????

Re: Cripps free to play
The AFL should just get a couple of blokes from the local pub to run the MRP and the tribunal. Pay them in beers. The outcome would actually be better

Re: Cripps free to play
Mr Dillon needs to re-write some of his rules and come up with better guidelines for the tribunal so that the appeals process doesn't getSainter_Dad wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 12:13pmBreaking NEWS - AFL NOT challenging - but will review the procedure after season endThe Fireman wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 11:31am I think a lot of clubs and supporters will have their nose out of joint over this

bogged down in 4 hours of legal mumbo jumbo.
The appeals verdict was nothing to do with guilt, it was all about legal procedure, legalese and bulldust.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Further breaking news - they will be reviewing the incident to tighten the rules at the end of the season - so they admit that there is an incident here - just wont fight Carlton on it.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 12:13pmBreaking NEWS - AFL NOT challenging - but will review the procedure after season endThe Fireman wrote: ↑Fri 12 Aug 2022 11:31am I think a lot of clubs and supporters will have their nose out of joint over this
