Re: Grundy
It doesn’t sound like St Kilda is in the mix for any major recruits.
What happened to everyone wanting to come and play for Ratts a few years ago?
Looks like they will keep attracting the dregs….
The Kents, Joneses of this world.
Who wants to be at dead s*** central anyway.

Re: Grundy
Who would want to come to the Saints and play pooball, no one who was elite i would say.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Grundy
Since our ruckman was BOG 2 of the last three weeks (and he was good against Geelong) I think the ruck is the LEAST of our concerns!
We seriously need a running mid
And
A Power Mid
Possibly a forward ruckman of Paddy doesn’t get up?
Possibly a back up key Power Forward (maybe Hayes will do?)
And a back up key defender (if Darragh isn’t it)

Yes agree.
We have Marshall and he should play No 1 ruck from now on.
We will sink or swim by improving our midfield, or not.

Re: Grundy
Well, you're here
But seriously, no to Grundy
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Sure they are working quietly behind the scenes, mysterious - like our game plan.SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 10 Aug 2022 10:18pm It doesn’t sound like St Kilda is in the mix for any major recruits.

I'm encouraged that our better players are extending.
The focus might be the drafts.
Are there many FAs to get really excited about, perhaps Hopper, who else?

Re: Grundy
Too expensive and has been worked out a bit in the last 12 months.
High profile mids are all inside mids , which we don't need. With Hanners off the books frees some cash but my guess is already spent on some of the extensions with Marshall and King as a starting point.
Specific targeted players, such as Melb did with Langdon.

Grundy prefers to stay at Pies as Dees come calling

Brodie Grundy still wants to remain at Collingwood, but his playing future is likely to be decided by the money other teams are willing to pay him.
Grundy sat down with rival club Melbourne recently, in a meeting that was attended by Demons senior coach Simon Goodwin, football boss Alan Richardson and his potential ruck partner Max Gawn.

Industry sources have told The Age that Gawn, who is almost certain to be the All-Australian ruckman this year, is excited at the prospect of playing alongside Grundy, whom he was in the All-Australian side with in 2018 and 2019.
But despite the meeting going well and both parties leaving feeling positive, sources close to Grundy say his preference is to remain at Collingwood, where he has five years left on a contract at over $1 million per season.

Geelong and Greater Western Sydney have both also shown interest in Grundy. Collingwood, who are once again trying to clear cash out of a bulging salary cap, are open to offers but only if clubs are willing to pay a significant portion of Grundy’s wage.
Goodwin, who refused to be drawn into speculation regarding Grundy, stated at his media conference on Wednesday that the Demons will continue playing two rucks beyond this season.
The potential recruitment of Grundy, who has played 177 games for Collingwood, is intrinsically linked to the future of young star Luke Jackson, who is still weighing up a gigantic offer from Fremantle for him to return home.
While Fremantle refuse to comment publicly or privately about their wooing of Jackson, rival clubs believe the Dockers have tabled a six- or seven-year deal worth an average of $900,000 per season.
Goodwin was quizzed on the move for Grundy on Wednesday but would not comment on meeting the two-time All-Australian ruckman, who has been sidelined by knee and ankle injuries since round six.
But Goodwin is eager to continue partnering Gawn with another front-line ruckman and said he is working on contingency plans to cope with the possible loss of Jackson.
The two-ruck plan was crucial in delivering a drought-breaking premiership last year and has helped put the third-placed Demons on track for another shot at the flag this year.
“If you look at what’s been happening, this year, especially in the last month, Luke Jackson’s been able to play in the ruck for us, and you can see Max Gawn’s having a big impact for us forward of centre,” Goodwin told reporters.
“Gawny’s looking more and more dangerous as a forward and it’s something that we’ve liked in the last three or four weeks, and it’s something that we’ll continue to pursue.

Heppell talks to Gold Coast Suns, but no four-year offer yet
“So two rucks is something, with the right mix, that will work for us.”
“I’m not going to speculate and talk about players from opposition clubs. It’s something that we don’t do,” Goodwin said.
“Clearly in our industry people are going around looking at how they can potentially improve their lists in the years going forward but to be honest, that’s not my focus at the moment.
“My focus is purely on [the game against] Carlton this week and how we play our best footy and how we continue to build our current season.”
Melbourne are giving in-demand Jackson time to make a decision on his future but are already preparing for the 20-year-old’s possible departure.
“You’ve got contingency plans for a whole range of things that sit within your environment, whether that be staff, whether that be players or whether that be a whole range of things,” Goodwin said.
“We’ve spoken about Luke a lot, and we’re going to give him the most amount of time for him to make his decision.
“We don’t know what that decision is at the moment. We’ll continue to build contingencies, we’ll continue to work with Luke in giving him the best environment possible to want to stay here and Luke will make that decision when the time is right.”

Re: Grundy
So this is how the AFL works
The best two teams are in prime position to score a triple AA ruckman in the off season?!
Salary cap working well… isn’t it?!
