I doubt they have ever had to play there.

They haven’t played there since 1999.

They have a 22-19 record there.

Geelong only get to play 9 games at their home ground while we get 12 at ours.
Hopefully the AFL will stop favouring us so much and give Geelong a better chance.

Yep 9 games with a true home ground advantage. Its a pity the AFL don't send Collingwood down there.

Re: Our spot in the 8 is ours to lose
I honestly believe if Collingwood were in our position that they would find a way to get over the line down at Geelong.
St Kilda often play to the script, such as our p1ss poor efforts against Port in Cairns and Essendon, and if things play to the script then we will lose by 10 goals Saturday night.
But - St Kilda do sometimes win games when they absolutely shouldn't and this could be one of those games. I'm going because I reckon we're a slight chance.

Collingwood wouldn't and don't go to Geelong. They also don't get reamed by home town umpiring like the smaller Vic clubs.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 9:39pm I honestly believe if Collingwood were in our position that they would find a way to get over the line down at Geelong.

Re: Our spot in the 8 is ours to lose
By now it should be well known AFL does not do fairness, level playing field, justice or consistency, and just occasionally nods a bit to tradition.
Its the Demetriou, Gillon legacy and they have been very successful; these are now over arching accepted principles, but they have pragmatically pandered to the large (read powerful) clubs. What's vital: broadcasting money and sponsorship, particularly from gambling interests. Giving Saint Kilda a fair go as a trade off to mammon would be/is a laughable suggestion to AFL management.
One thing we could possibly do about it is have our members turn up consistently to games, but they/we don't so its the smaller stadiums and far outpost games for you young sainters until you earn your stripes. Which you can't because see first line, the system wont let you. Our attendances are rather pathetic overall but I guess there are well known reasons for that, nevertheless, small crowds no sweeties.
No way is a mendacious AFL fixturing system going to put a block buster Pies/Cats game on down in South Norlane stadium, its small and seems a perpetual constructions site. MCG has to have its critical mass. And Daicos boys don't have GPS in their vehicles.
Nevertheless I think we can work our way through the fix eventually like the Dogs have; playing down at Geelong is a badge of honour Pies players can't wear and I think it will stand our guys in good stead in the development of their careers.
