Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Honest question.
What do you see us gaining by trading those 2 out? What deal would you accept, and think is fair?

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Not much to offer other clubs, I'm afraid. North Melbourne might look at someone like Highmore, but it would be for a late pick, so hardly worth it.

We laid out our picnic brunch and then it started to rain .....even though it has eased off its very doubtful anyone is interested in coming now for our soggy sandwiches and biscuits

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
I think Paton represents way more value to us then what we’d get for him at a trade. Never mind that he’s pbly the best player we have for his role…
Historically players that have a major leg break issue are a real slow burn on return.
IMO the club didn’t do him too many favours having him in from the get go as in terms of fitness and confidence, he’s been found out and beaten a few times this year and his stocks have dropped.
The flip side to this IMO is that it seems like he’s gone up a gear in the last month and I think he’s closer to his ideal fitness than he has been to date.
Personally, he’s one player that I reckon that will really improve next year with another preseason to really get back to and maybe even ahead of where he was.
We all thought of him as almost elite pre-injury. He’s fallen way back to the pack despite still having a reasonable season.
I feel very confident that he’ll get back there

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Paton was probably worth a mid to late first rounder pre leg break. Now 3rd rounder at best, keep him he’s on the improve.
Jones, 3rd rounder at best.
If you can dump him off the books I’d say go for it.

Yes
Let’s get rid of a good senior player for a third round pick who is more likely never to play AFL than likely
A Josh Saunders, Brodie Murdoch type!!!
Good management

Do not trade Paton, he is returning to form and is a gun small defender.

Who is the good senior player we’d get rid of for a 3rd rounder?

“dump him off the books”.
Young Zac has had a few health issues and is clearly struggling.
Real nice.

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Every season we have these conversations where supporters completely over estimate the value of their players
Jones and Paton are almost worthless in a trade for picks and as others have said 3rd round picks are meaningless (except if you are chasing points for a father/son or academy)
Maybe Billings is a second rounder
One way you could use them if you traded a pick and a player for a lower pick (eg Billings and a pick in the 30s for a pick in the 20s)

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Maybe we coulda got a third rounder for Seb last year as most on here suggested?!
That would’ve worked out well?!
Footy mgt 101
Don’t get rid of good player in the hope of getting better players… if you want to improve!

You’re right.
Health issues = too many nose beers (allegedly….)
Thus the suspension at the start of the year.

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
So basically you want to swap two players who you do not rate and expect to get a gun in return?
Simply not happening.
ie What did the Saints get for Newnes or Hinds.

Your rumour does not explain his pretty dramatic loss in body mass.
However Zac's biggest problems are that he is a ball butcher, and that he is not a good decision maker. In our team we have too many such players.

Freeing up a list spot is very good.......

Not sure who you are replying to, but I have never suggested trading Seb for a 3rd rounder.
Have always been a supporter of Seb.

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Didn't Billligs sign a 4 year deal at the end of last season? I think the biggest gain for the club is if they trade him to free up salary cap space.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Sun 31 Jul 2022 10:34pm Every season we have these conversations where supporters completely over estimate the value of their players

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Most on here we’re arguing black and blue with me and Saynta that Seb was a list clogger and was NO good and that his good years were irrelevant because we were no good (even though we actually won 12 games?) and his other B&F he didn’t deserve!!!
Now they won’t eat humble pie and convince themselves a 28yo suddenly improved and they were still right to bag him.
One disgusting comment was that Seb embarrassed himself for two years!!!
Seb has been a good player since 2015 - it’s that simple. He continues to perform and lead with his gut running and inside work.
And he’s a quality human!
Any Saint who pulls on the guernsey deserves some respect
A dual Club Champion and Acting Captain deserves nothing but respect!!!
The commentary around him last year from nearly every football expert on here was the thing that was embarrassing imo

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Well, I've never been disrespectful to him, but based on his last year or two , I had him sliding out of the best 22..
Happy for him to prove me wrong, he has been fantastic this year.

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
How have the nice Saints been traveling since 2011?
Nice doesn’t win finals, ruthless wins them.
I don’t think young Zac (27 is not exactly young in football terms) has any upside and is most probably on good coin.
If we could dump him with a decent return, go for it.
Unfortunately this is another loss trade (Bruce for Jones) for us.

Re: Who do we trade out for picks and player
Depends on where they believe things are at. Nothing jumps out as bringing in anything higher than a 3rd round pick - which means you are giving up a known quantity for and unknown risk.
Apart from free agency not expecting too much unless they look at Louge from Freo? Ideally i think the KPP def spot we need to look at the draft and develop ideally (like the kid from Richmond and what they have done with him this year.) No one coming in to play reserves - Battle, Wilkie Howard seem set and stable.
