If I were asked the old chestnut "what three things would you take to a desert island" I would answer a sturdy oyster knife, a crate of Viagra and the chickn off the Carpet Call ad on TV. Watching the tap from Marshall to Windy (almost) gave me the same excitement .WellardSaint wrote: ↑Wed 27 Jul 2022 8:55amYour Honour, I present Exhibit 'A'
RoMa to Windy who streams forward in the fashion of Martin, or Dangerfield, or Selwood.
Guaranteed to upset Cornes, Kingy et al, who don't want to see the Saints dominate any game anytime

Re: Rowan Marshall
It was quite a while ago, can't actually remember now if Gardiner was still on the list. They may have both been retired.

Re: Rowan Marshall
If you heard Ratten today
He defended the pairing and added that in the last 4 weeks Paddy was taking centre bounce and going forward - and Marshall was rucking around the ground!
An astute poster on here suggested that 12 weeks ago!!!
Must be reading SS
Maybe he should have also taken note of how to use Gresh

Re: Rowan Marshall
Personally I think Roma's tapwork is much improved on what it was.

Re: Rowan Marshall
RoMa is a clearance beast.
We smashed them today with total total clearances 39-24. Centre clearances were close with 11-8 but stoppage clearances was where we were dominant 28-16
RoMa was the most effective at clearances for us against Hawthorn. Brad Crouch had higher numbers today, but half his kicks were direct turnovers to the opposition
I heard an interesting stat from Joey (Leigh Montagna) on AFL 360 where he nominated Jeremy Finlayson as the most effective ruckman of the past 6 weeks
He was talking not only about pure tap outs or taps to advantage but the overall benefit to a team which is clearance at stoppage
Joey provided stats that highlight how effective Jeremy Finlayson has been while Lycett has been out of the Port Adelaide team.
Just on the most recent game - have a look at the stats for hitouts today in the game Collingwood vs Port Power.
Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox had huge tap out numbers (46 - 17) but Port won the clearances 44 to 36
Guess who was equal top again for Port? Yep...Finlayson
Can we find another Finlayson or Marshall or a younger version of Paddy Ryder? C'mon recruiters! Earn your money!

Re: Rowan Marshall
Two weaknesses for mine.
1. Centre bounce
2. Defending the opposition ruckman when they push forward, gets a little lost and exposed
Very, very valuable player, looked great in 2019 as the sole ruckman, that’s why I was opposed to recruiting Paddy at the time.
Paddy & injuries have stalled that development a little.
Time to unleash him permanently.
I recall you picked him as a player and called it on here when he was a rookie playing VFL and behind Longer, Pierce & Hickey in the pecking order.
Injuries to the above forced Richo to give him the opportunity and look what happened.
