Re: Crouch
NWM, Windy and Mitch may not get as many touches as Matt, but their kicks and handballs are much better.
As they get more experience, I'm confident they'll get big big numbers.
And quality too

https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player ... windhager/
Give it 2 more years and I reckon that’s exactly what we’ll be calling one of our youngsters that we drafted last year
I loved the way Windhager intercepted the footy late in the game against West Coast and put it on Butlers chest through the traffic
He was cramping up in the last quarter but his reflexes and his skills didn’t escape him

Re: Crouch
Yes, another. We already have his brother who is a dour accumulator, Steele is a gun but hardly explosive or a source of run and Ross has the athletic ability but rarely breaks the lines either. Those three will be in our midfield next year and I don't think we need a slow 27 year old inside mid with poor kicking added to the mix when we have promising young prospects fighting for game time. Right now his week-to-week performance would be better than Windy or Owens but we're much better off investing in them.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 8:24pmWhat???mad saint guy wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 6:48pm We have Windy, Owens and Bytel all competing for midfield time and I don't think it's worth adding another plodder in the mix. De Goey, Taranto and Amon, yes. Crouch, pass.
Another??
Matt is another?? As in the same subset as Windy, Bytel and Owens?
Bytel is a dud...judged not by me...by the selection commitee.
Windy..fantastic, exciting..One big game under his belt.
Owens..heaven knows..
Plodder??
Matt Crouch

All-Australian
Another?
Plodder?

Re: Crouch
I agree Windhager looks likely - but I don’t go too early on kids like I used to
He needs to back it up seasons 2/3/4
In the meantime we need to throw a contract at DeGoey
He’s the perfect fit imo

Re: Crouch
There appears to be a lot of love out there for De Goey - I agree he's a tearaway line-breaker but I'm worried that the hefty price tag he will command (he was pick 5 in the 2014 draft after all) which would have to be at least $800.000, could impose a severe strain on the salary cap going forward.
The $64,000 question is: will he make St Kilda a genuine premiership contender in 23/24/25?? Is the St Kilda list sufficiently strong right now that he becomes the missing piece in the jigsaw?
If the answer is "NO" on both counts, and bearing in mind his history of serious behavioural issues over his 8 year career, it suggests to me that going all out for De Goey may be not in St Kilda's best interests.
Much better to focus on the many other options on the table, especially any one of Taranto, Hopper and Tom Green from GWS, or a number of others that will become available at the end of 2023.

Re: Crouch
I know someone who knows him. Despite his football ability, he is not needed at St. Kilda. Read into it what you like.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Funny thing. We were talking about players we got wrong in a thread last week. Windy? Dean Greig comes to mind. Strong, built like a brick shithouse, ...let's hope Windy is a long termer..A Michael Voss!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Crouch
A lot of ridiculous comments in this thread.
Brad Crouch has just been a pass…. Give me a break.
Matt Crouch would be a better small forward than Higgins… oh my!
Bytel is a dud….. harsh and early call.

It's all bollocks.
Nicks said today Crouch is still a required player.
Dont let those facts get in the way of the forums penchant for peddling shite.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Crouching Crow, Hidden Agenda.
Tale of a quest for compensation for banished player.
Starring Nicks as the bald fibbing Showdowngun; and Matt as the faithful servant betrayed, who now longs to be reunited with his brother and play forward.

Re: Crouch
I don't go too early on kids either, statistics prove regularly the kids don't make it or they become regulars in a crappy side not capable of helping the club become a sustainable top 4 side, see Newnes, Dunstan and Billings for most recent examples. All were raved about in their first seasons and showed the subjective "something" and the fans latch onto it.
Take Shsrman for example, it wasn't that long ago posters on nearly every social media platform were relentlessly screaming for him to be in the best 22 because be kicked "clutch" goals, now he's a backline player.
For all we know Windy could become our next Dunstsn. The issues always present themselves in the 2nd year. Let's see how he goes next year before we prematurely announce him as our next Lenny.

Re: Crouch
And yeah get the DeGoey deal done but I think the coach over at Collingwood is keen to keep his flag winning players. I suspect he's in regular meetings with the WOKE brigade at board level who want coaches to win flags and comply with the corporate cleansing at the same time.

Re: Crouch
Not the exact player we need but also doesn't have to be the only player we pick up.
The reality is we have quite a few players who can be delisted or traded but may not be because we need to bring someone better in.
Said another way getting Crouch doesn't mean any of the below.
1. When we forecast a crack at a flag would Crouch be on the list.
2. Is Crouch better than who ever we would delist to make room for him (Joyce et al)
3. Do we need more AFL quality midfielders
All 3 are yes for mine so at the right price this is a no brainer.

There is only one Michael Voss and you a dreaming if you reckon Windy could develop into anything resembling him.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Fri 29 Jul 2022 9:48pmFunny thing.
