Wood, Paton and Clark

Post: # 1970193Post skeptic »

IMO this is upgrade territory

Wood, I don’t get the hype. No question with regards to effort or toughness but he makes way too many mistakes, bad ones... his skills are not nearly good enough to be the high risk, high reward type of player that he is. Just lacks the class to go up a gear.

Paton... played too many games this season IMO. Players that return from that type of injury usually have mediocre return years and for mine, Paton is slower, more unaccountable and really tending to butcher the ball more than he has. I’d like to see Connolly get his spot for the rest of the season and see if he can bounce back next year. Good kid by all means but been a tough year for him.

Clark - pbly a bit harsh to have him on the list given he’s straight back from injury but really didn’t like his game today. Doesn’t look fit enough, seems slight, looks like he could be injured at any given second... but his style at the moment... he’s playing deft touches and cute. I really rate this kid... he needs to be stronger, more confident and powerful because that’s the style he plays at his best.

Wood - average player, can do some nice things, is a good size and can run but is not a great footballer

Paton - struggled all season, should have played predominantly VFL to get confidence back

Clark - has never been fit

Clarke clearly working h8mself into it
Thought he was ok today tbh
Most his kicks hit a target and go to advantage
Byrnes a lottery
Wood agree
Paton can play he’s just lost confidence IMO

Still think he can be a star for us - lack of continuity due to injury has made it very hard for him - but agree about deft touches and cute.

He is a talent no doubt, but get the fundamentals right before trying all the fancy, flashy stuff.

Thought they all did ok

Thought Paton did a blanketing job today on a few different players and was fine

Wood still had it close to 20 times but was a bit inconspicuous

Clark did some nice things and definitely gets a pass mark given his recent issues

Mason Wood was a very good contributor. 5 marks, 6 intercepts, 3 clearances and 10 contested possessions

His work rate and ability to get back to help our relatively short KP defenders makes him a better winger than JB or Hill and he tackles harder than those two as well

He had 4 score assists and kicked a good goal when the match was in the balance.

If we are going to play finals (and I suppose they have to keep believing) then Hunter Clark has to be played back into form

Clark is one of our most skilled players and although he's not tearing it up, he wasn't a passenger. 7 intercepts and generally played his role today

Same with Pato. Played his role.

Woods work to push back in defence can't be measured with stats.

Wood, like McKenzie, does the hard running selfless work, which many do not appreciate. Multiple times he took marks of affected contests inside their 50 by pushing back. This also allows Sinclair and Hill to get away with their glaring defensive deficiencies ( as good a season as Sinclair is having that early goal he gave up to Waterman was appalling) .

Clark i thought worked in tot he game and had an influence the longer the game went.

Paton is on the fringe but no one else has grabbed the spot from him as yet.

Every side needs thoroughbreds - can't all be black caviar.

What I’d love to hear in the off-season is that Clark is tearing up the track like Coffield was this season pre-injury

We've got a Winx but I think someone should investigate if he's a ring-in and his real name isn't Fine Cotton.

Wood - Is what he is. Serviceable but never going to be a star. Puts in each week. Does make bad decisions and disposable is questionable. But the effort is always there. Does bring energy to the group which appears to be lacking at times.

Paton - Out of Form. I question whether he will actually make it. Seems to have stagnated in his development. Not sure whether StKilda will bring out his best.

Clark - Struggling since his injuries. Needs a full preseason to get mojo back.

It takes a bold personality to make that kind of accusation!

Clark is a very good footballer

Courageous, smart and skilled

But I’m convinced his fitness is not where it should be

Ross, Crouch and Steele are hardened and AFL mid fit

Clark is clearly not imo

I thought it was courageous of Clark to play so soon after such an injury

Agree with that, and takes a good mark for his size- I reckon he is doing as the coach wants, not necessarily starring. Paton is OK but not quite the standard he was before injury- I am worried that he gets caught a bit with the ball and doesn't have good awareness. Clark has lot of skill but I keep thinking that he needs a bigger tank.
