Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
Is this week a themed round ?
Comedy Central.
Plays a few minutes down back for Sandy and is somehow in the mix to be recalled as our FB.
If it happens I put Noughton down as the first player to kick 13 goals since Buddy.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
See this is what I’m talking about when I say that periodically, some weird notion/observation/discussion comes from the coaching strata that makes you think WTF is going on down there.
Sometimes I think Rats is quite smart… other times I’m like what mental gymnastics have occurred to make him think this might be a good idea.
Was it Pagan that sent Fevola down to Gehrig to teach him to chase.
That worked out well.
Horrendous if true.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
Showing my age a bit, but I remember Bob Murray in the '60s who came to us as a forward, didn't do much, then got sent down back and became one of the great full backs of the era and a premiership one at that.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
I know things are tough behind the scenes at the moment with regards to budget cuts at the AFL level and even worse at VFL level. The Pandemic really has been quite savage in that regard so I have some sympathy but surely we aren't that desperate to throw a kid trying to develop his craft and find confidence in a key postion into the complete opposite postion in ONE VFL game and then suggest he's ready to give it a go at AFL level the next week. And on prime time Friday slot no less.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 11:11am See this is what I’m talking about when I say that periodically, some weird notion/observation/discussion comes from the coaching strata that makes you think WTF is going on down there.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
My guess Sharman sent back to reserves to work on defensive side to his game and also see if he can have another string to his bow.
Don't want to come out publicly and say he doesn't work hard enough defensively so come out with spin for the lemmings out there. Some journo doesn't want to do any serious work and talks about Sharman playing full back.
At best based on size he is a HBF

Didn't Timmy Watson play Barry Hall at full back? That also worked out well...

Cowboy Neale
Fraser Gehrig

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
I have no problems with giving Sharman a go in the backline. In fact, may be a good idea, it might suit him more at this stage. We are now in development stage aren't we?
The article I read doesn't say at fullback, just states it would be part of a reshuffle due to the loss of Howard. Probably CHB, HBF.
Should have tried that McCartin bloke down back, but plenty on here said that would be a disaster, too slow, not athletic enough, etc.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
I believe Leinert actually played full back for Sandy last week against Footscray but Sharman was in the back line for the moments I could bare to watch - what a s*** team. Sandy used to be so good prior to St Kilda taking them over.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
Has Sandy gone to the dogs?
Will St Kilda follow?
Yes, it’s comedy I think ..
Some of us, myself included, are bracing for another slide into superficial equanimity …the face where we laugh it off, and ourselves for being St Kilda tragics as another season passes by.
But whilst there is a ray of hope, in general, do you thinking marking forwards make better emergency backs , or the other way around?

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
A very strange idea, if it’s truly being considered.
Still, Joyce was dreadful. Just about anyone would do better. And the Dogs don’t have much height up front. But I would have thought Lienert.

Surely it's not being seriously considered and hopefully is just the media department posting random thought bubbles to the club website to fulfill fan "engagement" quotas.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 2:11pm A very strange idea, if it’s truly being considered.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
That the same Naughton who's had less shots, less marks and less contested marks than Max King?
The Naughton who kicked 51 goals from his first 54 games, not 100?

Well, the whole thing actually started with Bachelor saying in his Sandy report that it looked like Sharman has played there for 3 years.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 2:33pmSurely it's not being seriously considered and hopefully is just the media department posting random thought bubbles to the club website to fulfill fan "engagement" quotas.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 2:11pm A very strange idea, if it’s truly being considered.

Yeah I know it started from that puff piece but farg it, part of me says let's hope Ratts rolls with the idea and see how crazy shyte gets. Sometime when you are flat out of options it might just be worth trying crazy shyte.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 3:04pmWell, the whole thing actually started with Bachelor saying in his Sandy report that it looked like Sharman has played there for 3 years.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 2:33pmSurely it's not being seriously considered and hopefully is just the media department posting random thought bubbles to the club website to fulfill fan "engagement" quotas.meher baba wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 2:11pm A very strange idea, if it’s truly being considered.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
Trevor Barker was just a nippy half forward flanker -- until one day he got flung onto someone at full back, and became one of our greatest defenders in history.whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 1:34pmBarry Lawrence and Russel Reynolds also!D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Thu 14 Jul 2022 12:56pm Cowboy Neale

Blight played golf on the Gold Coast.
Butterss & Co moved on the Wakelins, Sziller and Sierakowski and bought in Gehrig, Brett Voss, Lawrence and others.

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
That’s how our development rolls at Saints
Bring you in to play forward when the side kicks 2 goals in a half
Drop you next week
Bring you back in and Shanghai you down back where you’ve played 5 mins in your life
It’d be comical if not true
Wonderful Brett
At least it puts to bed the Shyte thinking of those in here saying Sharman was finished after 7 games …
He’s about to go through a Ratten re-birthing !!

Re: Sharman to Fullback against the Dogs
Naughton is out so if Sharman plays as a Key Defender it's either on Bruce or Sweet.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
