Expect to win 3, could win 6, could lose all.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Tue 12 Jul 2022 12:05amThere's 6 games to go.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 11 Jul 2022 9:56pm Five games to go and we’re out of the 8 on percentage.
That sounds like impossible odds to me.

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
We certainly can win 4 IMO. We need to fix the backline: I reckon Lienert and Paton for Joyce and Highmore. We’ll lose something overhead, but will be safer with the ball in hand inside our defensive 50.
We need to do something in the midfield. Windhager was poor on Saturday. Owens or Hannebery would be ideal, but not fit. Maybe try Byrnes again.

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
very possible.
It starts with a handstand
Whilst Blind folded
Singing a merry jig
whilst balancing a bowling ball on the ends of your toes.
The biggest issue is that we need to dislodge one of the teams in the 8. We need to win all of our games and hope that one of the above drops 2 games.
Maybe Sydney lose against Freo and we beat them in the last round.

I’ve never given up on a season where we are still alive, but I think you are probably right.Teflon wrote: ↑Mon 11 Jul 2022 9:03pmAh the perennial question as a saints fan ….
Torn
I think you forget finals
Grab as good picks as u can draft a quality mid
Stay the hell away from De Goey (Lethlean desperate after Hannerbury fail…I reckon he’ll throw the sink at him and tie us up for 3 years while at it)
We’re not going anywhere until we address some fundamental issues including forward structure (or, more specifically lack of), midfield class and now, backline structure without Howard.
Of the key positions we currently have two covered. King and Battle.
We also desperately miss the kamikaze attitude of McKenzie. There is not many you can rely on to never say die.

Won too many games to tank. Let's play finals instead. Or fail in the attempt.

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
Some teams suffered major malfunctions on the weekend...
Brisbane against Essendon
Richmond against Gold Coast
Collingwood against North
Seemed to choose the wrong gear..rusty bearings.
St Kilda has no gearbox.
Nothing to worry about.
It's just balls out frantic pace (unsustainable for a game, let alone weeks on end)
or it's just busted...
We had this with Richo in '16 too.
Competitive but only when red-lining. The tachometer spinning off it's dial, and then boil the engine.

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
jaundiced observations from a battered and bruised never say die despite the evidence supporter:
all of the teams we play from now in '22 would expect to beat us;
the straw poll consensus here - and I respect your individual and collective opinions mightily - suggests to me we are about 10 players short of being a contender and our current coaching, while serviceable, might lack direction game plan wise, player development wise, a what if approach when same same is failing/and a strategic flavour (fair?) and also the get the boys fired up factor.
So say we pick up 2 excellent players a year through draft/trading, Clark overcomes all his misfortune, Dmac keeps developing, King hangs around, Coffield comes back with some fire in, Hayes' promise is realised and we get a new coach in 2024 then we should play finals in 3 years or so, draws permitting.
So sure we in with a chance, just not right now.

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
Bulldogs @ Marvel. They're playing as bad, if not worse, than we are. Should win that one. Their weakness is their backline. They don't have enough tall forwards. They have a great midfield. That's where we need to at least halve the night.
Eagles @ Optus. If we can't win that, we may as well start trading on the Monday following the match.
Hawks @ Marvel. See above.
Geelong @ GMHBA. We won't win that.
Lions @ Marvel.
Swans @ Marvel. We need to win one of these two games. They are both winnable.
That will give us 13 wins. Which may or may not be enough with our comparatively poor percentage.

Bulldogs @ Marvel. - WIN
Eagles @ Optus. - WIN
Hawks @ Marvel. - WIN
Geelong @ GMHBA. - Lose
Lions @ Marvel. - 50/50
Swans @ Marvel. 50/50
Based on above 'predictions' by the one and only gusto (who is nver wrong!!).. that would have us as best case 14 wins, worst case 12 wins.
what do they reckon you need to get in this year?

Re: Are We Still In With A Chance to Play Finals Footy?
Easy first half draw where we got thru by a few players having great games. second half is a hard draw and our few glimpses of individual brilliance will not be enough. We need game plans and structure and under ratten we have neither. Another long two years ahead

If we play like we did on Saturday, we’ll even lose to West Coast.

I think we will lose unless they tank & don't try & win . They will have a decent team on the park & in current form I don't think we can beat them on their own dung heap.
