Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
Good luck Jack, I'm a fan.
Reckon he gets a poor wrap here, but he's a classy, quality ball user. If he was drafted at pick 40 and not always compared to Bontempelli, I reckon he'd be better liked at this place.

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
Can’t believe he’s already playing his 150th! Not a bad effort for a guy who was the “wrong pick” ahead of Bontempelli in the draft.

Great player. Still think we could make him look a hell of a lot better if we gave the ball off more.

Congratulations JB, I hope the Club & you have a big win on Saturday night. Still staggers me why you cop the criticism for not being Bontempelli. I hope you do play 250 games for us & become one of 42 St Kilda Premiership Players.

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
Whats unfair, if he isn't injured he plays. Its not unfair that he just isn't a match winning mid. Thats just a reality. To be fair though, he isn't a match winning half forward either. Its been a meh 150 games but he will probably get to 200 just depends on what he wants to be paid.
Anyway, well done on the 150 JB.

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
enuf of the exaggerated respect- to have played 150 games at the top level means you are a good player. But that is all. Billings is not a good kick, though he looks like one as is true of many left footers. which may explain why this myth persists. He is not a reliable kick for goal nor a field kick that can pick oppositions apart. His kicks are too often contestable.
He is not a very good footballer nor a leader type. The times he has dragged his team along - once or twice is all I can remember.
His position in the team reflects his ability - pretty much now wing/half forward.

Had the misfortune of being drafted into a side with most unimaginative coach we've had in decades. Along with many other players, he did not develop early on, nor was he able to utilise his assets in our "play down the wings" game plan.6621104 wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 12:47pm enuf of the exaggerated respect- to have played 150 games at the top level means you are a good player. On the kicking for goal problem, I am not sure we really had anyone in the team during the Richo years that you'd be confident would kick the goal anymore than 50% of the time.

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
43 Brownlow votes suggest he has been in the best few on the ground more than once or twice
Just because we want him to be a superstar because of his draft position doesn’t mean he is not a very good player
A HF who averages around 20 and nearly a goal per game - for 150 games
I’d take that

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
106 goals in 149 games- not quite a goal per game BM. Look, he is a good player - no need to exaggerate beyond that. The stats do not support it.

Sorry 0.75gpg
I’d suggest he is a very good player for the role he plays
Kicks straighter - he’d be A Grade

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
How do left footers manage to look better kicks than they are? Thought it still depended on hitting targets - no marks for 'style'. Intrigued!6621104 wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 12:47pm enuf of the exaggerated respect- to have played 150 games at the top level means you are a good player. But that is all. He is NEARLY as close to half a goal a game, as he is, a goal a game.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 10:15pm 43 Brownlow votes suggest he has been in the best few on the ground more than once or twice

In a couple more years of playing his position, whatever that actually is, he should probably reach the half a goal target.

All stats are superior to he who can't be dropped, and at about half the cost!CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 6:56pmHe is NEARLY as close to half a goal a game, as he is, a goal a game.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 10:15pm 43 Brownlow votes suggest he has been in the best few on the ground more than once or twice

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
He plays HF/Wing
A good HF will average 15-20 per game and nearly a goal per game
He plays some Wing
Which bumps up his ppg a bit and drops his gpg a bit
Bit like Seb Ross eh?
I’ll go with the facts, not some ignorant opinion

Not per anyone's maths.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Jack Billings ahead of his 150th
What bumps up his ppg, is the amount of freedom he is given to run around alone.
For a HF, he draws very little attention. How many ppg does a real wingman get? Where is the half back while he spends 75% of his tog in the half back/wing region. The half back is on the real HF, being pressured, so Jack can use his elite kicking and set up forward entries.
Pfffft. Looks good when you write it. You should catch up with Jack and let him know where he plays and how well he does. He'd probably appreciate that.
