Max playing higher
Says Jack Billings - so he can use his athleticism
Whale oil beef hooked
It only took 16 rounds! Someone mentioned that on here weeks ago!!!!
BTW
This is where they need to be flexible.
If he gets a mismatch- he needs to push deep and exploit
If he gets a gorilla- run him around up the ground!!!
It’s not hard really!

Re: Max playing higher
He has played higher spasmodically and looked really good when he has had the opportunity to run and jump at the ball, particularly between half forward and wing.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 06 Jul 2022 11:27pm Says Jack Billings - so he can use his athleticism

For some reason the club has been reluctant for Max to play this role consistently. With Ryder deep and his ability to lead at the kicker they look far more dangerous and less stagnant when they set up like this.
Perhaps it was an endurance issue with Max, not that you’d guess that watching him train. Maybe they were trying to beef him up and didn’t want too many miles in his legs.
Who knows? But let’s hoe it is at least a part of their rotation.

Very much overdue.
Not sure why he doesn't play at least 50% of the time as a roaming CHF like Reiwoldt

It's not rocket science , just amazes me why we are so slow to react to simple game changes that might just work but we keep persevering with same plan until it's all too late & the games gone

Re: Max playing higher
Thats been my criticism of Ratten for his entire tenure, its like he is frightened to change things during games. Or he doesnt have a feel for the game to move players about to benefit their strengths even for short periods eg King leading up the ground, Sinclair onto the ball, Butler/Higgins onto the ball - to relieve Gresham, Hill forward/wing when he tagged on HBF, Billings/Jones behind the ball when they are getting screened, Paton when playing rotate through a wing to free him up.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 9:00pm It's not rocket science , just amazes me why we are so slow to react to simple game changes that might just work but we keep persevering with same plan until it's all too late & the games gone
I understand when things are going well you dont mess with them, but when they aren't Ratten is reluctant to change things up until the game is spent. When was the last time we saw a Saints team physically go after a player/s or make a physical statement to begin a game?

Re: Max playing higher
The reason why we don’t see our players physically going after oppo players is we only have a minuscule number of players on the list that have natural aggression..Long, Battle, Jones, Wilkie and Marshall to some degree.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 10:18pmThats been my criticism of Ratten for his entire tenure, its like he is frightened to change things during games. Windhager and Owens show promise in that space but are only teenagers.

Re: Max playing higher
At the end of the day for what purpose? What will it effect? Who will it impress? That's for the fans. I'd rather see that aggression at the loose ball and the opposition player with the ball.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sat 09 Jul 2022 3:11pmThe reason why we don’t see our players physically going after oppo players is we only have a minuscule number of players on the list that have natural aggression..Long, Battle, Jones, Wilkie and Marshall to some degree.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Fri 08 Jul 2022 10:18pmThats been my criticism of Ratten for his entire tenure, its like he is frightened to change things during games. No AFL player will be or should be worried by push & shove, they all know that's where it ends. It's a show for the crowd.

Re: Max playing higher
Guessing they’ll have a strategy for Max, and it will involve more than one player…
They’ll also have a tag in Hill and maybe Sincs

Re: Max playing higher
What happened to Max playing higher tonight? Did Ratts think he'd outwit Freo by playing old butter fingers from the goal square?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Max playing higher
King would probably love another tall forward to share the load with him, unfortunately the Saints list doesn't have one.
Poor old Max will just have to soldier on and deal with the bomb it to Max game plan.
Our forward coach has a tough gig.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Max playing higher
for his own sake i think we should trade king to the suns so he can develop under a coach and staff that know how to develop young talent. our role should be to provide a place for b grade talent to see out their twilight years, or c grade talent to become first grade leaders.

Re: Max playing higher
I would like to see King go back to Sandy until he learns to chase, make space and do more defensively. The forward half is a shocker with the once reliable Membrey now running around like a headless chook, Higgins kicks a goal or two then decides to take the foot off the pedal, Sharman comes in for a game as a forward then ends up in the ruck..fair dinkum..what is going on down at Moorabbin
