Boris and Dougal
Our backline has done a lot right in our wins this year.
In our losses, our other guys were so bad that the backs couldn't hold back the floodwaters.
Ok, Boris must be doing a good job.
But...has he helped Dougal?
No.
Dougal is the worst full back ever.
He is slow off the mark, like a baby giraffe. Cannot kick in because his kicks get intercepted and they're hopeless.
He points angrily when his direct oppo takes a mark uncontested.
Boris needs to sort out Dougal as it's hurting the defence

Stupid post. Howard “worst fullback ever.” What a load of bollocks.

Can we put Wilkie's brain/heart in to Howard's body?
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

Re: Boris and Dougal
I’ve been very frustrated watching Howard as well but I think his form has been impacted by our team defence or lack there of, particularly with lack of options up the ground which has caused him to prop, turn and look confused and run into a wall of opposition players. It’s not a great look but most likely not entirely his fault.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Howard is a much longer kick. And kicking it in puts him in the right position if it comes back quickly. So he should still take some: we need to mix it up.

Re: Boris and Dougal
He tried to play on after a mark or free kick.
Long giraffe legs wound up, and guy on mark had enough time to corrall, which forced DH onto his left foot, and the kick was atrocious.
Week before, he kicked-in towards Seb, but he telegraphed it so Hind was able to come from behind Seb, and outmark Seb.
Hind kicked a be-Hind so it was ok, but...
Howard continually makes Basil Fawlty mistakes. He stuffs up more often than not.

Re: Boris and Dougal
Howard looks bad sometimes because he tries to bite off more than he can chew ..... he needs to keep it simple when he has the ball ..... just find an easy target and get back to the job of defending
Rarely teams teams score directly from kick ins so chipping around into the pockets from full back just allows a team time to set up in front of the ball ..... we need to move it quickly out from fullback and long to clear the defensive area giving time to set up our defense quickly again behind the kick and we should be setting up offensively for that long kick to the centre or wing
If the ball goes through the left hand behind area we go left out from full back ..... if goes to the right then we go right ..... hit the post down the middle ...... then change it every quarter to keep the opposition guessing ..... our players know beforehand where the play is going and set up for it quickly knowing in advance what the play will be .... if the opposition catch on then have a plan to change it up ..... its called having a gameplan and being able to modify when necessary
It also keeps our players heads in the game .... keeping them focused mentally ..... which seems to be a huge problem currently for us
Just throwing ideas out there cause we desperately need something

I’m not laying it on Howard per’se.CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jun 2022 4:36pmskeptic wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jun 2022 4:19pmBut all he ever does is bomb long to contests. One can only work within their capability and Howard obviously can’t approach that situation and do what Sinclair, Hill even Webster etc
It’s fine if you want to move the ball forward long and quick on the odd occasions but by and large, we look terrible doing it. You go from having clean possession to a contest and we certainly don’t distinguish ourselves positively playing contested footy across HBF.
To take it a step further, we actually look atrocious doing it.
Whether it’s Howard trying to show leadership or instructions from the coach… it’s a terrible terrible strategy for us and one that IMO even the layman fan would advise against.

Re: Boris and Dougal
Howard definitely is not the best full back in the league and would be close to 18th best.

Sadly like most of the internet we've got to the point where people get themselves so wound up on a topic they lose any sense of reason.
Exhibit A: Sharman the saviour
Exhibit B: Sack Ratts
Exhibit C: Howard is the word FB ever
Exhibit D: Membrey and Butler are no good
There is however usually a couple good posts every now and again that make it worth wading through this garbage.

Re: Boris and Dougal
Having just received a one week ban for racism -- which wasn't your first time -- it then probably wouldn't surprise you many on here don't care for your views much either.
Show us you are rehabilitated and offer an acknowledgement you understand the hurt you create with your rasism and offer a hear felt aopology.
Mods while I'm at it I propose the rules be changed around racism and that anyone banned for racism must make a public statement after the ban period is complete acknowledging the hurt they have inflicted as well as an apology before being allowed back on, and if they don't then it's a permanent ban.
2 strikes and a permanent ban.
Has to be zero tolerance in line with communtiy sentiment.
