Re: Frees for and against.
AFL umpires can influence games but usually they are 1 or 3 and it normally balances out.
What about the other codes where there is just one referee. I went to a ACT Brumbies vs Auckland Blues game in Canberra last weekend and the penalty count was 16 v 4 against. Now that is a game where the referee crucified the home team with interpretations and rulings.
Some might say this an AFL forum - well Im a complete footy nut and love all codes. But the Saints are my first true love!!!

They still missed a couple. Fisher is reluctant to give a free to his former side it would seem.

Fisher should never be allowed to umpire Stkilda games. he is conflicted be that perception of favour or consciousness not to favour. If that isn't the case then he is just rubbish and should find a new occupation

Re: Frees for and against.
Quite amusing to read the AFL match report and the only decision they questioned or thought was a mistake was the 50 metre penalty to Membrey for our 2nd goal. He must have written his report sitting at the bar in the SCG members - talk about a living hell for a St Kilda supporter or a supporter of football.
Their match day highlight is yelling "Wooooaahhh" as the boundary ump throws the ball back into play.

The standard of AFL umpiring is far from professional now and is detracting supporters from the game. AFL administration have let the ball slip bigtime here and the game has gone backwards, no question.
However, it doesn't at all explain how utterly deplorable the side was last night after coming off a humiliating loss against Essendon the week before.

Re: Frees for and against.
3/4 time 2010 grand final, can't remember if it was the first or replay, went for a beer or pyss, this bloke told me that his nephew, who was a huge Saints supporter, was one of the umpires. Said with a sad smile that he was clearly over compensating.older saint wrote: ↑Sun 26 Jun 2022 11:28am Fisher should never be allowed to umpire Stkilda games. he is conflicted be that perception of favour or consciousness not to favour. Fisher suffers from the same problem.
Umpires should declare their allegiance on registration and never be allowed to officiate a game when their team is playing.
Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Re: Frees for and against.
When you’re continually 2nd for the ball like we were last night, then you’re always going to get more frees against than for.
Can’t blame the umps we were absolutely disgraceful last night, END OF STORY!!!

Garbage.
The bulls*** that defenders get away with on King is cheating and biased.

Re: Frees for and against.
King has 22 frees for the season.
Second in the AFL for key forwards.
We have two players top 10 right now.
I love Max but he needs to stop being pushed off the ball so easily, stop the exaggerated action when outmuscled and the petulant behavior when it happens.
He’ll no doubt get an even better go when he starts leading at the kicker and backs only defence will be to chop his arms.
The outcome is in Max’s hands.

Numerous occasions Rampe or one of the McCartins impeded Max while the other marked. As blatant as you'll see.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Mon 27 Jun 2022 9:26amKing has 22 frees for the season.

Yep, the umps obviously feeling sorry for us when they gifted us half our goals from free kicks, never more obvious than that phantom 50 metre penalty!

And how is that any different to what Howard, Wilkie & Battle do on the odd occasion the opposition bomb it in?CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 27 Jun 2022 11:33amNumerous occasions Rampe or one of the McCartins impeded Max while the other marked. It is more noticeable with us as King refuses to get on his bike and we are happy to bomb it on his head consistently.
You have no understanding of elite sportsman Curly, let alone the rules of AFL.
The last thing elite sportspeople are trained to do is bitch & moan about umpiring and situations they cannot change.
I'm sure Max is being coached to be more concerned about what he can change such as movement, body position, using his strengths such as reach, speed, leap not bitching and moaning like a 12 year old kid because he got a little bit manhandled on a footy field.
Max is averaging almost two shots on goal per game from free kicks which is second in the AFL for key forwards.
If he & the team played to his strengths he'd probably bump that up by another as defenders panic when he has room to run and jump.
