Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
They offer more than Howard and Paton.
Our defence is shoddy and we have no chance of mixing it with the good sides. Are they still thinking of giving Ratten an extension?

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
Leinert is a running back, and is ineffective key back. Highmore is unlucky not to be playing. Pato has been just so-so this year

Particularly Joyce & Highmore should have been given a game this week instead of Howard IMO.

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
Howard is a KPP Highmore and LIenert are flankers or medium to small backs.
Webster and Paton have kept them out at this point, with Sinclair off half back.
As was shown in Freo? Jpyce is replacement for Howard . Perhaps highmore is an option if Wilkie or Battle went down.
Howard was poor last week but had plenty of mates. Who plays on Buddy if he wasnt there?

maybe, just maybe, they aren't as good as the two guys you are suggesting they replace.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Fri 24 Jun 2022 2:52pm They offer more than Howard and Paton.

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
I am wondering if the coach and his senior advisers are not aware of the saying perfect can be the enemy of good.
There are worthies in the VFL that keep being overlooked: Leinert and Highmore as mentioned, also Connolly, Campbell and until this week Sharman, Joyce, Wood.
I can't remember Joyce playing too many poor games (or Highmore or Leinert), maybe a couple early. These guys seem frozen out because seemingly they are to learn certain behaviours in the VFL to perfection - fair enough. But in the meantime the AFL side performs increasingly mediocre and the incumbents are largely left in situ - notwithstanding they might have a shocker or have goals kicked on them.
That approach could be self fulfilling, no promotion until perfect, which is impossible, so no chance to experience AFL for a batch of games or show what you can do on the big stage. Promotion depends mainly on injuries. You are pigeonholed into a position e.g. might be a better footballer than Butler but you are not a small forward per se (even though he doesn't kick goals and you might snag at least one); need to do it by the numbers like child paint books.
If Wood is out because of the BNE game, what's the story with the others that had poor games. Our selections/player use seems moribund and in being so highly predictable to the opposition. And now we have lost form, where is the side that beat Freo. Content in the knowledge losses have no consequences except for a very few easy targets? No imperative to run, block, tackle....all so hard and boring.

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
Some people need to read the Sandy coaches critique of the AFL listed players after each game, at least then they would understand what the coaching staff
require from each player before promotion. Failing that, watch Sandy now then and it might be more obvious. don't just read player stats.
Stats can be bulldust, especially when arguing over goal averages.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
Highmore still hasn’t played a senior game this year. It’s nutsy! Not even sure why Lienert was dropped in the first place. Selections are going out of kilter again this year.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Exactly. When I see a players has kicked some goals at VFL level I don't assume that player can play AFL level.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Sat 25 Jun 2022 12:56am Some people need to read the Sandy coaches critique of the AFL listed players after each game, at least then they would understand what the coaching staff

Re: Why aren't Leinart and Highmore playing
I think Highmore should come in at the expense of Butler. Part of the rotation on the bench. Paton and Webster to be played further upfield at times. Both can play wing or even in the guts at times. Give us some different bodies in there. Gresh more forward time where he is better suited. I think we're stagnating ATM and we need to mix things up a bit.

Boot Howard.
Replace with Lienert.
Howard is crap at kick-ins.
And he loves giving his man 30m of distance.
Been doing that for ever.
Not sure if Enright likes that sort of behaviour
