Bad Starts
St Kilda has started poorly in nearly every game this year.
Even in some of our best wins the opposition has quickly scored the first couple of goals.
Surely the club needs to address the reason for this.

Re: Bad Starts
Yeah, we’ve been slow to get out of the blocks. Against the better teams, this is a worry. That first quarter versus the Dees was what cost us the game!
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Re: Bad Starts
Trying to reflect on the positives, the game goes for 100+ minutes and we've won 8 of ours.
Good starts would be a big improvement, I agree.

Re: Bad Starts
Ratten puts them to sleep in the pre game address? There are simply no excuses for players not being a 100% ready to go at the start of games. Very poor coaching and pre game routines are the cause...

Re: Bad Starts
As an experiment maybe they could try swapping the pre-bounce yoga meditation with belting out a few choruses of High Voltage?
Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Re: Bad Starts
We've actually only been outscored by 17 points in the first 15 minutes of games this year.
But we've not led a single match for it's entirity. The last time we did so was Round 23 last year.

Re: Bad Starts
I would be interested to see the figure for say the first 5 minutes. Several games we have conceded the first 2 goals and in nearly all games the first goal.
My point is we haven't flown out of the blocks in any game that I can remember and usually it is the opposition that gains the early ascendancy.

That’s been my thought. If the pre bounce breath meditation isn’t bring players into focus - ditch it.

Re: Bad Starts
A bad start is Port's 0 - 5.
A possibly more important couple of stats are final score and who scores more in the second half of games.
Very early on stuff is a bit of a raffle? in a game with two teams one has to score first, and that's only crucial in NRL golden point type situations (?).
Far better for supporters though if they could games to bed early.

St Kilda 5.3.33
Opposition 7.5.47
Interestingly, St Kilda have held their opposition scoreless in the first five minutes 6 times in 2022, but have never had more than a single scoring shot in the opening five minutes.

Re: Bad Starts
Maybe we’d be down by 10 goals at Q time without it. It might be helping.

Re: Bad Starts
Maybe do their yoga zen thing as the last thing they do before running out - then the actual warm up might switch them on rather than leave them in some parallel universe of mystic marvels.
