The druggies have never respected the Saints and it's obvious

Post: # 1961314Post saynta »

They always believe that they can beat us but that is no reason to let them roll over us.

But we do, every f****** year.

Are we scared, too easily intimidated, as we are certainly better than we showed last night.

Been going on for as long as I remember. That arsewipe Sheedy didn't hide his contempt for the saints when I was talking to him either.

Back in 1965 we finished on top of the ladder and the bummers 4th. No one had ever won a flag from 4th in the VFL history.

Yep, you guessed it those arseholes beat us in the grannie.

From the heraldsun.com.au

"Herald Sun football writer Glenn McFarlane gives his take on Round 14 with the Saints shock loss, the Blues defensive woes and the last touch rule.

DISLIKES
Why Ratts has every right to be filthy

In an emotional pre-game speech, Saints great Nathan Burke urged the St Kilda players to play with the ‘Spirit of Spud’. It was spine-tingling stuff.

But you had to wonder whether the players somehow missed the message or whether they simply figured Essendon was going to be the pushover it has been for most of the season.

Whatever the reason, it was enough to have coach Brett Ratten’s blood boiling in frustration with the ease in which the Bombers were able to pick holes through his team.

On a night honouring Danny Frawley in Spud’s Game: Time 2 Talk, St Kilda’s players seemed unprepared for the ambush that Essendon had planned for them.

Then once they did come back to level the scores in the first 13 minutes of the third term, they seemed unwilling or unable to close it out.

The Saints were coming off a short break and had lost some players to injury, but in Ratten’s eyes, none of that was any sort of excuse for the way they played on Friday night.

Had they got ahead of themselves? Did they take the game lightly? Were they flat or tired?

Listening to the rawness of the coach’s presser, maybe it was all of the above.

“It’s a reality check for our players, you’re never as good as you think you are, and you’re never as bad as you think you are, and tonight’s performance was very, very bad,” he said.

“It’s just a bit hard to swallow today, on a Friday night, Spud’s Game and our supporters and what we dedicate the game to a legend of our footy club, and the legacy he’s left around mental health, we produce that, it makes you a bit flat for the day.”

In a year tightening by the round, it wasn’t good enough for a team expecting to play finals.

The last time St Kilda won at the SCG was by a point in 2009.

Four weeks that will define Saints’ season

It’s the block of games that will almost certainly determine St Kilda’s fate in 2022 and it starts next Saturday night at a venue they haven’t won at in 13 years.

The Saints take on Sydney at the SCG before three Marvel Stadium games against finals aspirants Carlton, Fremantle and Western Bulldogs in a stretch that will tell us if they are good enough or not.

If they play like they did against the Bombers on Friday night, Ratten concedes they won’t be good enough.

“The part about the tough draw is they’re all tough ... I will say what we dished out (against Essendon) I don‘t think they’d (the opposition) be too scared, would they?” Ratten said.

St Kilda hasn’t won at the SCG in its past six attempts, with their last victory there way back in 2009 when Ross Lyon was coach.

They have won two games there (by one and two points) since 1998.

The Blues will be a tough ask with Jacob Weitering a chance to return in that game, while the Dockers and the Dogs will fancy their chance against the Saints.

The Saints effort against Essendon was not good enough for a team expecting to play finals."

Bombers are contemptuous of us and you're right, Sheedy was at the bottom of it. That's why they are my most hated side by some way.
What we dished up yesterday was exactly what I was worried about, limp half hearted footy.
Ratten should send a message at selection and base his team selection next week purely on those who are willing to go hard and show courage.
Hence, Hill, Clark, and a few others need to get dropped.

I’ve got bomber mates who just laugh when I raise our players as decent
Hard to argue right now
But the coach was “surprised” going into that
Seriously who the **** didn’t know we needed to come out in qtr 1 last night and make a statement?????
Apparently not
Anyhow we’ll do ok against swans
Then probably lose west coast or hawks
Good sides don’t do that

Just keep reminding them that they are drug cheats. When they scoff at this remind them of the 1993 premiership they won by cheating the salary cap. It works for me.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Oh I’ve stuck the boot in heaps
To the point where they agree has St Kilda cheated via the drugs scandal then we’d have been booted out
But the “big” clubs can do no wrong
I hate em
Had to sit there last night chewing a Shyte sandwich while our inept club laid 38 tackles for the match
Pathetic

Good post I agree with most of it but I'm still so disappointed in the lack of effort not just because it was Spud's game but what it actually mean's for our finals aspirations. 38 tackles FFS that just shows how pathetic our intensity was. I could tell in the first 5 minutes we weren't switched on lazy & unaccountable from the first bounce & it didn't get much better apart from a token come back in the third that was short lived. Next week well as you have pointed out Sydney at the SCG & is not our happy hunting ground , I just hope they fly the flag & put up a much better effort than on Friday night because that rubbish is just not acceptable IMO

There seemed to be few Essendon supporters around me in my school years down bayside way, but I met a few as I started working and I was quite taken by their haughty arrogance. Asking them who they barracked for, they would scoff before replying, as if I should know better than to ask such a silly question. Then came their little speech about the 'mighty Dons'.

We have beaten them twice on a Friday night this century. They've gotten us plenty.

And wasn't it Essendon that spoilt our unbroken run of wins in 2009, in Round 19 or something?

We have given them a massive shot of confidence, not only for the rest of this year, but for our future encounters.

I wonder if we were out coached? Pardon the humble/brag, but I just don't have a clue about that.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

It's ok. Never respected them either.

Cheats. Arrogant for no reason. Use our primary colours.

Sheedy mystique has no substance. Lucky with generational players. Man is bearly articulate and media interpret that as being a football savant.

Shallow club in crap area but last night their players had much more quality than ours. They could come home with a wet sail.

If I meet someone and they end up turning out to be an Essendon supporter, I actually have a visceral reaction and have to recalibrate and remind myself that they're probably not all c***s.
It's a bit out of hand to be honest.

I agree with the original post, but several clubs had won the flag from 4th before 1965.

My memory tell me they were the first but I acknowledge I could be wrong.
