Any type of forward line is only as good as the players selected. It's rubbish to claim a small or a tall forward line doesn't work. Isn't that dictated by the quality of players?
The question to ask is how have our small, specialist forwards performed in the high pressure games, against the stronger sides.
We can look back and assess their performances over this year.
I personally would prefer to see a player like Owens replace one of our small, specialist forwards - even if he's had little experience as a forward, I feel he'll thrive in pressure situations.
He's more likely to take a mark, win his own ball, apply ferocious tackles and not get monstered by his opponent, but maybe even do the monstering. He's good at ground level ... why not?
You need big, strong bodies in finals ... even Milne got monstered and was shut out. Unless you are a freakish small forward like the former Rioli of Hawthorn with his cat-like reflexes and explosiveness (who happened to be deceptively strong too, and probably weighed 85 kgs or so).
