Why do I dread Essendon games?
No other team has this effect.
Every Essendon game the dread is for a different reason
This week it is about, well here we are a huge chance to play finals but a loss today will noticeably put us back in the ruck
Essendon have had enough rev ups that they take this game as their mini final
Please let me be wrong and my dread misfounded

Re: Why do I dread Essendon games?
I have to agree.
The memory of season 2009 still haunts me.
It started when the Saints on top of the ladder, unbeaten on 19 wins and overwhelming favourite against Essendon, lost by 2 points.
From there on it was always a struggle to get our top form back again, and we all know how that year finished.
And further to my woes, my least-favourite umpire, as far as St Kilda is concerned, Nick Foot, is officiating tonight.

I dread them too. It’s because I hate the cheating bunch of self entitled mongrels and their scumbag supporters.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

I'm dreading tonight's game as well. If ever there is a team that can f*** us up it's Essendon. And if there is ever a single player that can f*** us up it's Stringer.
Max's first set shot for goal will tell me a lot about how tonight will go. Heaven help us if he misses it.

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

I'm not confident but still hopeful . Pretty basic really bring our best & we will win but 10% off & we lose. We are in control of our own destiny if we want it bad enough the rest will take care of itself .

Re: Why do I dread Essendon games?
They have the worst supporters in the league by a country mile. Putrid, the whole lot of them. Arrogant, delusional, prone to irrational hero worship ( see Sheedy & Hird) , sore losers but even worse winners. Two things make me happy on the weekend. Us winning and Essendon losing, preferably by a huge margin.
These games make me sick in the guts, though, because they are a bogey team for us. I'm on my way to the game with a sense of apprehension. I hate that mob so much I barely go to the games when we play them. I hope I haven't jinxed our boys tonight by deciding to head to the ground

I think you're probably overly concerned about the "mini final" thing. They will have a crack early on, but they are unlikely to be playing with great desperation: what's in it for them if they win?terry smith rules wrote: ↑Fri 17 Jun 2022 6:13pm Essendon have had enough rev ups that they take this game as their mini final

The main risk is if we let them get away to some sort of a lead. Ideally, we kick a flurry of goals early in the game. Failing that, we have to keep things tight until we can get on top.
Anyway, not long to wait now.

And it's a special occasion match.
We seem to get emotional rather than physical in such events.
Let's see how we have matured.

Re: Why do I dread Essendon games?
wanted a southern journey with my son to watch the saints. landed in adelaide, hired a car, and drove across to melbourne, visiting old friends and haunts along the way (uni days). deliberately picked our melbourne weekend when we played essendon as i didnt want the holiday to end on a loss and for him to lose interest in the saints.
those were the days - the year essendon were crippled by the sanctions and won the spoon. still gave us an almighty fright with a surge in the last. son spent the whole game chatting up a cute bombers supporter despite my insistence he shouldn't consort with the enemy, little s*** enjoyed her company more than our win.

You dread Essendope games because we usually get pantsed, and guess what, we got pantsed.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Essendon and Port are the two teams that always seem to beat us.
