If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
Which were both winnable on our day, we'd be equal top.
The window is open. Learn from these h&a losses and hit top gear a month from now.

Re: If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
If we had smarter ball users (in particular our midfielders who are generally poor kicks) we’d be premiership contenders

Re: If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
The midfield were slack against PA in the third quarter, and gave them the game which we should have won, but I guess our midfield was a goner after injuries against the Lions, who have better mids anyway.

Re: If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
I'm sorry, but in what world was the game against Brisbane winnable? We wee away from home against a quality team and we did well just to hang in there. Most sensible pundits would say the final result flattered us. And let's not pretend that injuries was the reason we lost. That 3rd quarter they were all over us. Our mids simply aren't good enough to compete with the elite mids in the comp. Neale and McCluggage smashed us all night. We won the taps but we couldn't control the clearances. They got more and better quality clearances.
The Port game was definitely winnable and should have been won. I think we are somewhere between 5th (on a good night) and 10th.

If we had Melbourne's or Brisbane's list we'd be flag favourites.

We should have beaten Port.
We forgot what we play for (premierships). Chased short term financial gain for long term pain.
Played well against Brisbane and beaten by a better team on the day.

Cairns was a complete raffle.
We threw away our favorite status just by deciding to go.
Brisbane? I don’t think we would have been favorites.
13/14 footy reporters for The Age tipped Brisbane, even with our good form!!

But we didn't, so we need to slog harder.
Melbourne's last few weeks shows what can happen when you lift your foot off the pedal, better now than in the lead up to finals.

Re: If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
And if we’d won all the matches we’d lost we’d be on top. If only it was that easy. Pretty sure every team drops winnable games. Not sure there’s a magic formula for it though. Not even Melbourne have figured it out yet.

Re: If we had won in Brisbane and Cairns
The final margin flattered us.
If the Bears had been more accurate, we'd have lost by 10 goals.
They moved the ball much better than we did.
We were next to useless.
A few times, we skirted along the boundary line and got it into a scoring spot, only because the main corridor was blocked, and the Bears stuck to their game plan, while we had no plan at all
