Re: Daniel McStay
A good player in a good team but who is he an upgrade for in our team. Is he a better forward than Membrey or a better defender than Wilkie or Battle?
I'd be keeping my powder dry, he is not the type StKilda needs just because he is a FA.

Re: Daniel McStay
When was McStay a defender ?
I predict he'll McStay at the Lions with a contract better than he ever imagined.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Daniel McStay
If we are looking at a free agent, I reckon DeGoey - whatever he is like as a person - is the guy who could give us something we don't currently have.
At best, McStay gives us a slightly better version of what we've already got.

Re: Daniel McStay
He will be asking/getting ridiculous money 600k + and is not the player we need. We have Jack Hayes & Sharman forward and Highmore in defence. Would rather spend the $$$ else where.

Re: Daniel McStay
We've got enough young talent forward and back, desperately need more quality mids/rucks

Re: Daniel McStay
We need a second key Tall forward.
If I was a betting man I'd bet against Sharman making the grade.
And that only leaves Jack Hayes.
We also need a replacement for Paddy as he is a week-to-week proposition but so much of our current improvement this year has been due to Paddy's contribution. (this is our recruiters number one priority).
And then we need a couple more A graders in the midfield.
What to do.

Re: Daniel McStay
What more is Sharman supposed to do?
Was excellent last year. Been mucked around this year.
Is he competing with Butler, King or a forward line philosophy?
Has performed ok, then gets dropped.
If our match committee can't find a role for his marking & kicking skills in our forward line they need to go to a how to score workshop.

Re: Daniel McStay
I think the evidence is clear at the half way mark of this season, we are better when we play an extra tall forward, Sharman isn't playing because there usually isn't a role for players who aren't AFL standard.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Fri 10 Jun 2022 10:46am What more is Sharman supposed to do?

Are you suggesting Cooper will not be recontracted, goals against Freo last year an aberration? Has been poor in games played this year?

Re: Daniel McStay
Or didn't put in the work of some others during the pre season, has been passed and needs to improve on his 2 way work which following the dumping of Billings is clearly a non negotiable this year. Also tougher second year as teams put more work into you . Hasn't set the world on fire when he has played this year.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Fri 10 Jun 2022 10:46am What more is Sharman supposed to do?

In 2022 performed OK cannot be enough to keep getting a game.
That all said we don't need McStay

Re: Daniel McStay
Agree Vortex but I dont think McStay has really played the 2nd key forward role. He is always behind Daniher, Hipwood and a ruckman. He is 195cms and reasonable in the air, but I think his next contract will be huge with the amount of clubs chasing him. His best year was 2021 when he kicked 28 goals, but I think his asking price might be more than the Saints are willing to pay.Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 10 Jun 2022 10:31am We need a second key Tall forward.

Very few free agents leave their club, especially when they’re in the premiership window.
Besides, reckon we’re pretty well placed with tall forward options…would love to get a 198cm+ key back (so hard to find).
