Changes for this week
Outs - Windhager & Webster
Ins - Higgins & Highmore
I feel that Highmore strengthens our backline and Higgins gives us another avenue to goal. And the good thing about Higgins is that he can also go though the midfield as well. With Highmore he can give us that extra interceptor that we desperately need as well.
The other change that we should consider is Butler for Owens but that would be a difficult decision as Owens played very well in our last game.
Very excited to see how we go against Fitzroy!!!

Re: Changes for this week
Highmore? Lienert played fairly well in his games, and he's a nice size. I'd pick him ahead of Highmore.
I wouldn't pick Butler in such an important game.
He'll be thinking he's better than he is, with his silly party tricks like the old Daicos... will be a liability.
Pick him vs the Injectors, a low risk game where we'll see if he really belongs

Re: Changes for this week
Highmore would give us the all important interceptor which is more valuable than what Webster gives us. I agree with Butler, he can have another week in the VFLWellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 07 Jun 2022 11:26pm Highmore? Lienert played fairly well in his games, and he's a nice size. I haven’t seen Higgins go through the midfield for a while, if ever.

I would drop webster for Clark
Sharman for Higgins
Long plays the defensive forward role.clarke to hb instead of hill who pushes up to the wing.

Higgins an instant in but not sure if I’d drop Sharman, he doesn’t do a lot but he seems to impact the game right when it matters.

Re: Changes for this week
Only one to me who should be dropped on performance is Sharman -flashes of very good but as with many younger players drifts in and out a little. Also need more on ground pressure in forward line.
Butler in for me after performance at Sandy. Higgins has had a better year but has played no footy for a month now, at least 2 weeks of which has been restricted with concussion protocols.
Windhager is unlucky but i think Clark at this point is a better player and needs to start getting games at this level.
Billings, Brynes unlucky but i cant see who goes out on form and positional based as this is clearly a selection policy this year. Likes for these 2 at Long, NWM, Owens - all of which deserve to retain their spots . I don't agree with Long playing back as decision making makes me very nervous near their goal .
Backline 3rd stingiest in the AFL no need to change ti for change sake. With Cameron need both Paton and Webster as options- especially if he gets away from one early.
In : Butler, Clark
Out: Sharman, Windy

Re: Changes for this week
I think I’ve posted this before.
Anyway, I agree with you older saint: Butler for Sharman, Clark for Windhager.
Higgins to come back via Sandy. Long and Butler both on notice to perform really well, with Higgins likely to get one of their spots against the Bombers.
They’ll think about bringing Billings back, but it’s difficult with NWM in such terrific form. Billings for Webster perhaps, with Clark going to the half back line. But, on balance, I’d prefer to stick with Webster.
Talk of brining in Highmore or Lienert, or of dropping Paton, is nonsensical IMO. We’ve currently got close to the strongest backline in the AFL. (I think the Dees are better when fully fit, but that’s about it.). If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Currently our problems are in the middle and up forward (defensively). We need to fix those.

Re: Changes for this week
We have to sort out the systems for entry into the forward half, and need the midfield to be better at picking out options by foot for starters

Re: Changes for this week
Options 1 & 2 Max. Option 3 Higgins when playing. Option 3 alternative, what has the opposition defence left available. You have a split second to decide, running flat out with an area 40m x 40m to scan, full of bodies.
Game plan, if there is nothing obvious kick to, go slightly left or right of goals 20m out. Let law of probabilities take over.

Re: Changes for this week
I am a Lienert, Highmore fan.
But I dunno about dropping Paton. We need all the class we can get down there.
To quote a Brissy fan
“we have the edge on St.Kilda’s defence. Our forward line is simply too potent. I am expecting Daniher, Hipwood, Cameron, Bailey, McCarthy, Rayner and McStay (if he plays) to make a massive difference. Factor in a handful of goals from our midfield and we will kick the winning score.”
Now just because some fan says so, doesn’t mean so, right?
But I think we need class and experience…
As for Sharman, didn’t he shank one last week too? If he had two goals, maybe we would reconsider. How he drifted across Kingy’s pack to take that mark would surely give oppo coaches something to think about.
Will Higgins fire? What do you think of his output, vis-a-vis the small forward cliche that they are hit and miss?
I don’t think we can afford to leave him out.
As for Long, I don’t think we can expect much more from him. Turning on the heat won’t do anything other than make him and angry bee, and we’ll be back to costly free kicks..He’s doing nicely as a low possession player. But what is the opportunity cost?
Seems like Battle, whilst still not convinced he is a centre-half back KP, is doing well enough to stay too. Those marks he is taking so crucial.
I hope we improve on the exit D50 plan. Kicking out it from behinds still gives me shivers. Would a Highmore, Lienert help on that front?

Re: Changes for this week
Sharman is a work in progress, whether they can afford to do that at AFL level or drop him back to the VFL is up to the brains trust, that's
why they get the big bucks.
What was interesting at training last Friday was when the forward group was doing it's thing Sharman was wearing an alternate coloured top and
he was playing on King, that was a lesson for him right there.
If Sharman was dropped then it would be for a small forward, i think we are fresh out of experienced tall replacements.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Changes for this week
Highmore might be selected due to concern about Daniher coming in and the need to have an extra intercepting defenders to contend with Lions tall forward line.
Funny games might be being played around Danhiers alleged selection.
Long is undroppable.

We are the 3rd stingiest back half in the competition
No backs are being dropped.

Re: Changes for this week
Oh dear. Clark I can understand: give him another game in the twos to build up his fitness. But Owens? Surely he’s keep his spot ahead of Sharman and perhaps even Windhager. We lack grunt in the middle as it is, so why reduce it still further?WellardSaint wrote: ↑Wed 08 Jun 2022 4:20pm Twitter-Tim Fernando reporting 2 guys in white shirts, apparently for the 2s?

Re: Changes for this week
Based on this week alone, I think Coops better than Owens. Long term? No idea…but for four premiership points, Sharman. Owens had a couple of opportunistic goals. Coopers goal was serious. I would be more worried about Sharman if I were Fagan. Of course, long term we want Owens to develop so…

Don't like to say it out loud but possibly Higgins for Long. Also possible Clark for Owens but Tony74 said only one change
