Re: Coffield. .
IMO the club made a mistake with Coffield trying to turn him into more stronger, key marking type. He put on too much baulk, lost his zip etc
Is much more suited to a running play maker type that is surprisingly good grab.
IMO they were on the right track this preseason as by all accounts Coffield was one of the fittest on the list pre injury.
I thought he was going to have a good year tbh
Be interesting to see what the club has in store for him when he comes back

Re: Coffield. .
The club felt he was ready for a breakout season before injury struck.
Could become a very good player of the Goddard type IMO.

Re: Coffield. .
Coffield just needs to get a decent run at it, he always seems to get injured when he’s up and about and it always something serious.

Needs to stop Coff ing it up.
Especially over kicking or under kicking short passes in the backline into the corridor.
Just kick it long down the line to a contest.

Re: Coffield. .
Was one of our best in 2020, played some great footy including in the votes for the final vs Doggies.
Then 2021 went backwards, looked heavy , slow and uncertain. Last couple of games of the year seemed to have some self belief return.
Preseason was training well....shame about the knee.
At his best, and when fit , he is a very good player. Reads it well, and can kick long and accurately.
Very much a confidence player, and IMO doesn't exactly relish the body contact....maybe standing in the hole too many times as a young player?
If he wants to make it , he can, like Clark, fitness is the key, and they both need to get flint hard and super fit, they have enough attributes to be A graders

Re: Coffield. .
Perfect size and skills for a modern day winger if he can get the endurance.
Push back and intercept and get forward and deliver.
Similar role to Wood.
Could also be very good off back half as shown in 2020.
His last 1/4 in the final V Bulldogs was amazing.
3 intercept marks in the first few minutes of the term when they were up and about.
If he gets his confidence he’ll be a player.

Re: Coffield. .
He is very much a confidence player and drops his head too regularly for mine. Having said that as mentioned by bigcarl, he was having his strongest preseason and was looking like he was going to have an exceptional year. Hopefully he finds his groove quickly next season and puts pressure on current players.

Re: Coffield. .
You qualified your question with ‘when fit’ but I still don’t understand what you are trying to say
What do you mean by ‘these days’?
As bigcarl said; “ The club felt he was ready for a breakout season before injury struck.”
At his best he was worthy of a top 5 finish in the B&F in a year when we actually made finals. He didn’t maintain that form in 2021, but neither did many of his team mates

Re: Coffield. .
Right now he is NOT best 22. He is injured.
His last few games in 2021 and his form overall for his career are relevant but we have depth and it's going to mean he'll have to work his butt off to break back into the side.
He'll be competing with Webster, Highmore, Paton and possibly Josh Battle who are all defenders. I don't see him as a mid so he won't be competing for a spot with Wood, Dmac or Sinclair or Bytel, Byrnes and Clark.
Our depth is great right now. Have a look at what happened to Billings. He's having to compete with Hill, Long, Higgins, Butler, Owens, Windy, and possibly DMac, Wood and NWM

Re: Coffield. .
AT the grand old age of 22 with only 52 games AFL experience .
I think 2020 and 2021 showed the answer to this question. Talent wise he is comfortably in our best 22 however this is based on doing the work. He was on e a many who clearly suffered from the lazy pre season program of 2021 combined with a great 2020 appearing to have allowed for a easing off of pre season work - not the first young player to do this. Also explains why pre injury they were wrapped with what he had shown.
Great size and strong overhead, good user and courageous.
Hopefully the positive of the year out will provide the knowledge needed for what is required and how short a career is. Look how Gresham has turned it around after missing basically a year increased his work ethic dropped skin folds and is now as important as anyone in our midfield.
Looking forward to a big 2023 from Coffield.

Re: Coffield. .
I hope the club sticks with Nick Coffield, he's too good a player to trade out to another club who could like a number of others come back to kick us in the bum. Once fully recovered he will most certainly force his way back into the team.
St Kilda has a number of strong options as HB flankers, Highmore for one. At 191 cm Coff's not a KPP and to my way of thinking is a prime candidate to play wing/mid and should be developed in that role when he recovers from his injured knee.

Re: Coffield. .
No way will Coffield be traded or delisted. He was on track to have an outstanding year, just like Hilly. Both did addition work in the off season to improve their skills and running ability.
I see that Acres is being touted as an all Australian now by certain media personnel. Throwing him in as the steak knives in the Hill deal was a huge mistake and one that might well come back to bite us.
Trading Coffield would be another f*** up.

Re: Coffield. .
Coffield has had some games when he was really dominating in the back half.
Pre-season he was flying. He will be in the mix come 2023.
