We beat Norf...
If the Pies can beat the Blues next week (yes, we should barrack for the Pies)
We'll go to 4th position.

Re: Next week
Would be nice for just a nice easy percentage booster next week, instead of having to make another second half comeback!

Re: Next week
What we should do and what we end up doing are often poles apart, the result is not a lay down against Noble's Norf, unfortunately.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I suspect Long gets dropped to Medi-Sub, for Snags.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Sat 21 May 2022 11:57pm The biggest problem will be fitting Higgins, Clark and Butler in the team,
Because Long got 1 kick, 3 handballs.
He didn't get much ball.
Billings might be injured, only got 12 disposals.
Maybe JB gets 'managed' to bring Clark in.
I still think Butler needs to prove himself in the VFL

Re: Next week
Say what you like about the wy we win but you have to play four quarters to beat us and we can win games in 20 minutes.
When our defence, midfield and forwards get it right all together, we will be a real threat.
There's every chance that will happen in the next 10 weeks.

Re: Next week
Next week we need a good percentage boosting win !
As the bye is coming up teams often want to play bruise free footy , I'd like to think our boys are ready to say were top 4 contenders this year and crushing North will do that !

Re: Next week
Let's see if we can at least start well next week.
In nearly every match the opposition has scored 2 goals ( or at least 2 scoring opportunities) before we virtually touch the ball.

The umpires will try hard to win the game again but St Kilda's irresistible force will win out in the end like it did today.

Webster played an ordinary game and gave away a stupid, undisciplined 50 at a crucial point in the game. I'm dropping him after that.

Re: Next week
Long is no use as a small forward, he insists on trying to be Cyril.
It is not his job to engage in the marking contest, he is supposed to be front and centre gathering the spilled marks.
Higgins must come back to replace him.
Midfielders job is to get metres gained
Windhager gets enough ball for an average player but not for a midfielder.
He needs more ball but more critically more long kicks.
Billings must go back to the wing.
He needs to get more ball and tackles if he is going to be a small forward.
Webster has plenty of endeavour but his skills are appalling.
Clark must come back and play at clearances.
Despite Ryder dominating the ruck, saints were slaughtered around clearances without Steele.
Butler is the type of player who can seriously exploit North with pace and skill.
So I am bringing in Byrnes, Clark & Butler.
IN
Clark
Higgins
Byrnes
Butler
OUT
Long
Windhager
Sharman
W-Milera
However I expect the selection committee will deliberately not pick the best side but try to get an extra game into each of
W-Milera
Windhager
Sharman
In which case
Webster, Wood & Byrnes probably miss

Re: Next week
A lot of people need to actually watch the whole game and understand players roles instead of isolating certain incidents and concluding that a player should be dropped. If Webster is fit, I don’t think he gets dropped
There was an incident in the first quarter where Jimmy Webster copped a very heavy knock after his usual desperate spoiling attempt. It was very very early in the game. He was in quite a bit of pain and it was just before the first goal of the game was scored. It was either his knee or shin or ankle.

Hill and Sinclair can’t both play at half back. I’d have Sincs there and Hill starting on a wingmad saint guy wrote: ↑Sun 22 May 2022 1:14am Webster played an ordinary game and gave away a stupid, undisciplined 50 at a crucial point in the game. I'm dropping him after that.

Hill is lost as a defender. I mean he has improved and his tackling and pressure has been really good, but I just watched the first goal of the game and Brad was trying to get involved in the pack mark situation and he accidently got in the way of Dougal who was about to jump and spoil Thilthorpe.
Also. We need Brad Hill playing off the wing and hitting targets inside 50 if we want to win finals. That’s where he is most comfortable and that’s where he is most damaging to the opposition.

North were good against Melbourne obviously Melbourne always had them covered but they showed a bit . Still confident we can get it done but need to be on song IMO anyway.
