It’s time for Geary
How many goals have Paton and Webster given up in the first quarters of games this year?
Again on Sunday 28 seconds in!
Would have that happened on #14’s watch?
Is there a place for his leadership and concentration in defence?
Don’t come at with me the tired “he’s passed it argument”
If you disagree then why do both or either Paton and Webster deserve to hold their spot for this week.
What odds Stenglein kicking an early goal this week?

He won't kick an early goal against us.
Lock it in!

Geary was a great lock down small defender and a great runner.
As hard as a cats head and courageous as any player in the competition.
However he had slowed down significantly in 2020 & 2021 and has been hampered further by serious impact injuries.
In 2020 he was used as much as a defensive forward as he was a small lock down defender.
Admittedly the game was on my phone so viewing was not ideal, but nothing in Geary's form verses the very average Bullants lead me to think he should be selected in front of Billings, Leinert, Owens, Bytel, Highmore etc with Byrnes certainly ahead of him.
I think Paton is struggling a bit, but still would not replace him with Geary as Clark should be ready week after next.
Long, Webster, Paton, Clark all with more speed and agility than Geary would now possess.
Huge Geary fan over many years, even when many here questioned his disposal I've always loved what he brings to the game.
However his time was up last year and the game is only getting quicker.
Gears would get nowhere near Stenglein in a straight line let alone on the move.
So you have effectively answered your own question Terry.

Not sure if old Gears could have stopped the bleeding with his ageing body. I’d be looking more at getting blokes like Lienert, Highmore and Clark back in the team.

That's damning when you consider that Stenglein is 41 and retired in 2009!D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Mon 09 May 2022 1:55pmGears would get nowhere near Stenglein in a straight line let alone on the move.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Mon 09 May 2022 12:12pm

Geary is well down the list of backups right where he should be.

Re: It’s time for Geary
I could be wrong about this, but I highly doubt Geary gets a look in. He’s there to help coach the young ones in the VFL.
Surly, he’s behind 3-4 others.

Re: It’s time for Geary
Geary is not the answer at this stage. Has been a great warrior, but we gain very little by playing him now
Webster had a stinker yesterday. Lost his concentration a few times and it cost us goals. Paton is a great stopper, but his brain freezes when he has to dispose of the ball....a real nervous Nellie who hesitates. Hesitates, hesitates, and the kicks long to a contest. Similar to Gesry

At this stage of our list build/development … if Gears is the answer then, the question is all wrong …

Geary should remain in the VFL and coach

Re: It’s time for Geary
I think Geary is having his effect on the Senior team precisely by what he does with the reserves
Noticeably better prepared this year than previous debutantes coming through the VFL.
A whole year of being on field coached by Gears at Sandy is invaluable and a smart move by the club
If we miss out on finals, no one should have a problem with Gears getting a call up to farewell him, but let's hope that doesn't actually happen

How many threads do we need on Geary before we can all agree that he has been a loyal servant & has been a great captain so only if we are really depleted by injury .

Re: It’s time for Geary
Did you watch the VFL Geary was horrible. Same old rubbish kicking and scrubby hand balls. Apart from Allison & possibly Adams & Kent he was our worst on ground.
Whilst on Allison I have real concerns over this kid. He lacks physicality to his game, is an average contested mark, not agile enough to be playing wing, and is slow to react when the ball is in close. I know taller kids take longer, but if you use Adams as a guide, who has been on the list just 6 months, you can see signs that Adams will make a good player. Allison works hard but atm he runs around like a 'headless chook, he just has zero footballing nouse.

Re: It’s time for Geary
Update from today
“Former skipper Jarryn Geary is closing in on a return to senior football after being named as an emergency on Thursday night, along with Jarrod Lienert, Ryan Byrnes and Windhager.
The 33-year-old managed only three games last year due to a broken leg and shoulder reconstruction, but has been pressing his case at Sandringham over the past month.
"He is getting close. He won't be the medi-sub this week, but he is getting very close. We threw his name up and even match committee this morning we were still chucking it up. He is doing everything right but it won't be this week," Ratten said.”

Luv Ratts …but this mentioning of Geary in his pressers is pretty ridiculous.
Highmore
Lienert
Connolly
Owens
Bytel
Joyce
All comfortably in front of him, watched a few games in person at Sandringham.
Finished …absolutely cooked.

Absolute joke of a club if Geary gets a run before some others cause he’s finished and was never that good to start with - honest battlerterry smith rules wrote: ↑Fri 13 May 2022 3:37pm Update from today

Next we’ll hear Kent is on the cusp !!
If that occurs we get what we deserve and if I was Highmore and co I’d seriously look elsewhere for my footy development
