Gresham
I have been travelling all day so know nothing about the match.
Looked at my SuperCoach Team and Gresham earned a pathetic 55 points.
Bit worried that he will never be more than a handy player. Thoughts?

Re: Gresham
He had a bad day
And when he got it ..... it was blind bombing up and under kicks .... even when in space
Needs to learn to lower his eyes .... unfortunately not sure that will ever happen

He thinks it is the word discuss that earns the ire of the forumites.

Re: Gresham
He was horrible today. The old Gresham. Looked like a 1st gamer. Panicked, rushed. Literally kicking the ball to no one. He set the tone from the very first contest when he appeared to try and toe the ball, overran it and they took it away and scored a goal in first 30 sec.

Gee he can be hot and cold but let’s face it he is exciting unfortunately he sprays his kicks we all know that but hey we must have him in the side each week
As a coach I would be scratching my head whether to play him forward or in the middle

Re: Gresham
MIA for large sections of game when it was there to be won
Wasn’t alone
I’m nervous that many of our players suffer from that
When Melb got on top none really looked like they could take the game by the scruff…
I guess that’s the difference between having a “workmanlike” midfield vs one with Dusty in it…

Re: Gresham
Has a lot of tricks but unfortunately is let down too often by his poor field kicking.
I still think he should be played mainly in the forward half rather than midfield, especially with a few players coming back in.

Re: Gresham
Yes, it did have a workmanlike look about it. Steele is a very good player and captain, but I don’t hear him mentioned in the same breath as Martin or Bontempelli or Cripps. Crouch and Seb are also good, solid players but a little one-paced.Teflon wrote: ↑Mon 09 May 2022 8:10pm MIA for large sections of game when it was there to be won

You need some dash and creativity in there and we’ve had to look to players such as Gresham, Jones and Sinclair to provide it. I’d also had hopes for Clark in the midfield, but he’s been so badly smashed by injuries ….
Any case, we badly need playmakers in the guts.
Gresham had a bit of a ‘mare, but mostly he’s been very good in the midfield this season. I think that is where he is best value to the team. We know his natural style is to take the game on and that is largely what we lacked yesterday.
Too many were overawed and went into their shells.
I thought for a little while In the third - when we got our run going and took some risks - the Demons looked rattled and threatened. Next time we play them we have to bring that sort of game from the start

Re: Gresham
Spot on. That’s been my point for ages. Modern footy games of significance are won by elite A graders executing their excellent skills in the fiercest of heat.Teflon wrote: ↑Mon 09 May 2022 8:10pm MIA for large sections of game when it was there to be won

As much as we think the like of Steele, Gresh, King have that bit of magic - they simply haven’t shown it often enough for long enough. We’re becoming much more even but we simply don’t have the type of player on our list who can bust a game open in 10 mins either as a mid and/or forward.
Danger, Fyfe, Dusty, De Goey, Stringer are those types of players (when fit of course).

Re: Gresham
Gresh should be a permanent forward pocket so we can make best use of his goal kicking ability
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Gresham
Does anyone remember the opening bounce and what happened to start the game??
I think Paddy won the ruck tap out and anyway...looked like Jade was going to get the first possession for either team...
Gresh was favoured to win the footy, but seems like he was undecided...
He didn't bend down (perhaps because of his hip issue or feeling the bruises from last week or prehaps hearing footsteps) and decided to kick it off the ground...
In the end he stumbled and didn't connect with the footy. Melbourne put thier head over it, gave some quick clean handballs and won the clearance
I'd still have him mixing it up with half his time spent in the centre but I don't think he should be played in the midfield if he's not 100%

Exactly Scollop.
That first centre clearance should have gone our way - it did not and they goaled, lifting their confidence and putting us on the back foot.
