Elite foot skills
Should be a lock
If you don’t turn it over the other team can’t score

Re: Karl Amon
His run, speed and a great LF kick. Not soft in the games I've watched.
Laid 10 tackles 2 matches ago.
Tipped out this week, but then back in, must have been a late change
Responded with 25 disp, 4 tackles
Also fought back from being in a wheelchair, unable to walk much
as a youngster (10 - 15 yo ?)
No Contract, No contact

Re: Karl Amon
From the hun.
"Karl Amon (Port Adelaide)
Victorian teams are going gaga for Amon. Why?
He’s a Victorian. He’s a free agent.
And critically, he’s an unrestricted free agent.
A player good enough to be in the All Australian 40 last year has a funny old profile.
Elite for disposals, clearances, metres gained and pressure yet poor for kicking, which is seen as his strength.
He is kicking at only 52.7 per cent efficiency this year, although his 44 per cent in the Cairns heat this week didn’t help.
St Kilda is in the race and while he turns 27 in August, slotting Amon into your half back line or on a wing is a potential gamechanger.

Re: Karl Amon
Yes the AFL has now released the official list of who is a restricted FA and who is an unrestricted FA.
Amon is a UFA.
Amon is a UFA.

Re: Karl Amon
If he wants to come to us and it's not going to cost us anything, definitely we need to take him.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver, Patrick Cripps, Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Steele, two of whom we passed on.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Wed 11 May 2022 7:39pmHow does that work? 186 are VFL only & 188 are AFL Hall of Famers?

Re: Karl Amon
Apart from elite foot skills he is an UFA. This is the best way to strengthen your list. It's a free hit ie. no draft picks wasted and only SC needs to be used. Just like Crouch!
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Karl Amon
Unrestricted Free Agent = cost nothing in draft picks etc.
Surely some salary savings coming with Hannebery deal finishing and the planning for B King which never eventuated.
Not sure Port is a happy home at the moment so looks like a no brainer if he wants to come

I get the feeling with our Port links Paddy & Dougal, plus Karls mum working at the club (indigenous liaison), it is already a done deal!!!

There is always a cost when you bring in another player and especially when you promise them a position and you promise them a spot in our starting line upBruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Wed 11 May 2022 7:21pm If he wants to come to us and it's not going to cost us anything, definitely we need to take him.
It'll cost you losing a player like Hunter Clark because he doesn't get opportunities to cement a postion.
It could cost us losing a potential star of the future like Windhager or Wanganeen-Milera for the same reasons

I think Lethlean and Gubby are getting seduced (or should I say addicted) to bringing in new players via Free agency.older saint wrote: ↑Thu 12 May 2022 11:03am Unrestricted Free Agent = cost nothing in draft picks etc.

Someone has to make way. Right now we are doing ok with Wood and DMac and we also have Clark, Coffield and Billings to come into the side
Dan McKenzie is not considered an elite kick, but I'd argue that we need Dan more than we need Karl
What Dan brings re. grunt work and tackling and the ability to spoil in our defensive area against some KPF's is not a skill that Amon can match
Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. I hope the coaches and the list managers have a big say in all of this
I would assess at the end of this year how both DMac and Mason Wood have performed and rethink wasting salary cap space on Amon

We need experienced players for the now and we're drafting some good kids.
Amon is an upgrade on Mason Wood on the wing.
We can get him for nothing and still draft young talent to the team.
Geelong have been using this approach of recruting ready made players for years. They're competing at the pointy end of the season every year. They've only missed top 4 four times since 2004 and only missed the finals once.

Re: Karl Amon
Not convinced that shedding cheap-as-chips players like Hind, Acres and Dunstan (maybe even Newnes) to bring in Hil and Hannebury has been a winner.
Go back further and you can throw in McEvoy, Stanley and Hickey.
If we bring in Amon do we flog off Bytel or someone like him? And watch him tear it up at another club?

No way do we get rid of Bytel. We get rid of Geary, and Wood first!!!Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Thu 12 May 2022 5:49pm Not convinced that shedding cheap-as-chips players like Hind, Acres and Dunstan (maybe even Newnes) to bring in Hil and Hannebury has been a winner.

Re: Karl Amon
Carlton now being talked about as wanting Amon. I think Amon would be best 22 and players who hope to be either need to work hard to be or move on to greener pastures. That is what makes a strong club.
I appreciate what you're saying about DMac Scollop and being a once fan of DMac, then critic, now fan again. I think he's made of the right stuff to fight for a spot. Besides if we are relying on him to be the spoiler against gorillas then perhaps our problems become too numerous to mention. Whether that be key backs with size and speed or carrying players not willing to work hard enough to take their turn...as DMac has ALWAYS done.
