Beating GWS, Gold Coast, Richmond, Hawthorn and Fremantle
is great - but nothing like beating one of our our fellow foundation clubs.
I look forward to playing Melbourne and Geelong in a couple of weeks and hopefully beating them.

Round 9 Geelong (Marvel)
Round 10 Adeleaide (AO)
This will be huge.
First Port in Cairns will be no picnic.

I do! they were the ones who used to give us the biggest hidings between 1979-1990 era.
Even South Merlbourne's record against us before they went to Sydney reads like a Russian novel.
Playing Port Adelaide at night in Cairns is like an old Escort Cup Night Series mid-week match rather than a real game for 4 points..

haha. Yep, I'll never forget the many hidings at Victoria Park, Princes Park, Windy Hill, Kardinia Park, and even (especially?) the Lakeside Oval during that era.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 24 Apr 2022 2:50pmLOL (with love) Butthurt much?????samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 24 Apr 2022 2:36pmI do! they were the ones who used to give us the biggest hidings between 1979-1990 era.

LOL - I was spared - 11 years old at the start of that period - only allowed to catch the bus down South Road to Linton Street (as the bus stop was right outside our house)samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 24 Apr 2022 2:52pmhaha. Re: Beating GWS, Gold Coast, Richmond, Hawthorn and Fremantle
Oddly, when I was growing up in the ‘70s, North Melbourne were giants and Essendon were alsorans.
Yet somehow, even then, I knew who some of the big clubs, and although it really hurt to be beaten by Richmond again, it really stung in the back locks of my lil brain to be beaten by Footscay, Fitzroy and sometimes Geelong. (I didn’t think of Geelong as a powerful club) And to get thrashed by South Melbourne ( which the Herald told me had not won since 1933) was beyond shameful. And they gave us a hiding or two.

Ah…the roller coaster ride of a saints supporter!
I was 5 years old when I started following us in 65.
Grand final that year, premier’s the next, grand final in 71…great times.
Little joy after that but hey, once St. Kida is in your blood, there’s no changing.

Re: Beating GWS, Gold Coast, Richmond, Hawthorn and Fremantle
I was taken to stand under the wind sock from the time I could walk. 72. All I remember is smelling like beer from collecting cans.
At 5, I was collecting the cans in the quarter breaks. By that time the usuals were trained to put them into the bags my dad provided me with. I was busy watching us get pummelled.
Dad was a Patron Saint but we just ate in the SC and walked around and then walked back after the game for raffles and a feed.
Loved those days.
