Team of the "new" Century!
To the best of my knowledge we haven't seen a TOC since the end of 1999.
I thought it would be interesting to look at one from 2000 onward.
Criteria I have used:
- Minimum 50 games
- All Australian automatic inclusion
I have excluded Burke & Loewe who played many more seasons prior to 2000 than post who were both TOC selections in 1999/2000 and though played well to the end of their careers were superior pre 2000.
Burke - 1988- 2003
Loewe - 1986 - 2002
Harvey - 1988 - 2008 was AA in 2005 and played through to 2008.
Really struggled for a ruck combination as Everitt didn't play 50 for us post 2000 and we traded McEvoy before he blossomed.
Key backs were a challenge with no stand out brutes or real talls other than Carslile, but gun medium tall defenders.
I'd expect Sinclair, Marshall, King, Gresham to be in there and left them out for now as still early days though could be easily included.
I've probably missed an obvious inclusion but here is my shot!
B: Baker Hudgton Geary
HB: Goddard S.Fisher Jones
C: Dal Santo Hayes Steven
HF: Membrey Riewoldt Montagna
F: Milne Gehrig Hamill
R: Koschitzke Steele Harvey
INT: Ball Schneider Thompson Peckett
EMG: Dempster Gilbert X Clarke Gram Maguire Armitage

Re: Team of the "new" Century!
Not bad. I’d have dempster for Geary and Gilbert for Jones in backline.
Gardiner play 50 games for us? If so I reckon he’s a better ruckman. Even paddy Ryder is better ruckman than kosi imo.

Did you forget Hamill?
Also is HB Clint Jones or Zac Jones?
Personally, after last year and the way he’s started this year, I’d have Sinclair in there

Re: Team of the "new" Century!
Aussie Jones at HB where he was an AA in 2004
Yes, I missed HF
It was the last position I was tossing up on
Hamill, Schneider, Gresham, Billings.
Hmm… I think Gresham
Leading goal kicker in 2017 and can go into the middle

Glad to alter it and add him in.
Aussie Jones was also AA.
Does Dempster replace Peckett, Geary, Baker or Schneider?

No Membrey?
I'd argue he'd be ahead of Kossie and Hamill as a player.

not easy, but at their best both were better imo, and kosi can back up ruck. members could easily be there in place of either.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 20 Apr 2022 9:26pmVery Good effort.desertsaint wrote: ↑Wed 20 Apr 2022 7:30pm B: Baker Hudgton Dempster
