Jack Higgins
Has Jack Higgins become the new Stephen Milne for us?
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Great comparison.Bruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Sun 17 Apr 2022 11:43am Has Jack Higgins become the new Stephen Milne for us?
On Kayo Dermot talked of how he plays like a mini KPP with leading patterns and getting to drop of ball.
Joey chimed in with the Milne similarity.

Re: Jack Higgins
He’s a good footballer and natural forward. Not sure he’s in Milney’s class (all time great!)
But thanks Richmond, you can have Castagna, Arts and Rioli… we’ll take Butler and Higgins

Re: Jack Higgins
Give him time. Milney couldn't take an overhead mark. Higgins is very good overhead but not as fast.

Re: Jack Higgins
Milney was an outstanding contested mark for his size
Opposition often used a tall on him to quell his marking

Re: Jack Higgins
LOL.
Higgins, as good as he is, couldn't even carry Milney's bags.
Ok so Stephen Milne played 275 games and kicked 574 goals.
That is a 275 game career with an average of 2.09 goals per game.
He had six seasons of over 50 goals. SIX times. Twice he kicked over 60 and two more times he was in the high 40's.
Milney was a special. Rare as hens teeth for a small forward to so consistently pull those numbers. Arguably the best small forward to ever play the game. Chances are if he played in premierships, he would be remembered that way.

What I was thinking but hesitant to post. I saw Milney kick 10 or was it 12 goals once on that f***wit Akermanis.bigred wrote: ↑Sun 17 Apr 2022 6:48pm LOL.

Before the easily offended get offended, I am happy to substitute dropkick for f***wit.

Re: Jack Higgins
I really like Higgins
Pbly my favourite player at the moment.
I don’t think the comparison with Milne is a good one. Milne was more the traditional small forward… Higgins looks to me more like a midfielder resting forward. Runs a lot more, better grab and bigger work rate.
Milne was better at creating something out of nothing and pbly one the best readers of play of all time. Higgins tends to less spectacular things to create opportunities e.g runs harder to get free, is stronger etc
Both seem incredibly passionate about our club which along with their size are pbly their most striking similarities.

Re: Jack Higgins
I honestly believe that Higgins is as good as Milney.
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Jack Higgins
I can't recall Milne taking many contested overhead marks. Most of his marks were chest marks. Higgins is a better overhead mark. Remember Milne played 275 games. Higgins has played 60 odd games. It's ridiculous to compare the two at this point. Wait until Higgins retires before comparing him to Milne. In my opinion if Higgins plays 250+ games he will end up better.

Re: Jack Higgins
Milne took a lot of marks on the chest leading and Higgins is faster and a longer kick.

Re: Jack Higgins
I have a sneaking suspicion that Higgins will climb a podium on the G and accept a Premiership Medal, within the next 4 years.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Sun 17 Apr 2022 9:02pmI can't recall Milne taking many contested overhead marks. Re: Jack Higgins
Milne had unbelievable strength for his size in a marking contest. Many times held his position against a genuine key back and marked it.

Re: Jack Higgins
Not only strength
His ability to read the flight of the ball and position himself was like that of an elite marking forward, and obviously he had great hands given his skill level!
Milne was 175cm
If he was 190cm he would have kicked 1000 goals
He played a lot like a small full forward (mini Fevola)
His timing of leads was also spot on
Obviously he could crumb, and he had great lateral movement.
Higgins is a smart footballer, like Milne has natural nouse forward of the ball. He also plays tall… like a Poor Mans Toby Greene
Not in the same class as Mile - who was a freak

Re: Jack Higgins
Milne had one knock on him; he went missing in big games.
Jack looks like he'd enjoy putting on a show on the biggest of stages. Time will tell.

Re: Jack Higgins
A better comparison maybe Toby Green.
Both Green and Higgins are strong overhead and strong through the core…they both can play deep, a sort of pseudo full forward.
Fortunately Higgins doesn’t have the dirty streak!!

Re: Jack Higgins
100% this.
Milne DID go missing in big games. Far too often. He played in plenty too, so it's not like the sample size is too small.
Snags does look like he would thrive on the bigger stage.
