No superstars, no worries

"People look at our side and they’ve commented all year, ‘Where are all your superstars?’ but we play pretty well as a team,” he said.

“We’ve got some real clarity in our roles of what we need to do when we’re in each role and it’s up to the players to perform that and up to the coaches to keep upholding them to that.”

Midfielder Jones’ strong return at second-tier level buoyed hopes he could make a swift return to AFL level but Lade said St Kilda would not rush him.

“He got through the game really well and had a lot of possessions and a lot of clearances, which is great for him,” Lade said.

“But he’s always going to be week-to-week and we’ll monitor him and we won’t be pushing him in any sooner than we need to and he’ll be ready when he’s ready.

“If he has a good week, there’s a chance (he comes in for round 6) but if he doesn’t, he might not be.”

I loved that comment from Lade too. Everyone keeps banging on about our lack of elite talent. Whether that is true or false is irrelevant.

A champion team will always beat a team of champions!!!!

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Its a credit to Ratts and the coaches that they have got the team playing selfless football and its showing results. You dont need superstars when everyone contributes, how do you think Melbourne will go if they lose Petracca? The same as Richmond have done without Martin I would suggest.

We still have a couple of needs to fill on our list eg midfielder with speed, a big tall defender and another ruckman but generally our list is starting to come together well. Its a credit to Lethlean, Gallagher and our recruiters to turn the list over that they have in such a short time. Hopefully we can get another 'diamond in the rough' at the mid season draft?

Having just watched Acres playing for Fremantle, they actually did us a favour requesting him in the Hill trade. He still plays the game in slow motion, still cant hit a target by foot and is still setting his team mates up with hospital hand passes. Acres got 21 touches, but honestly you would take 12 possessions from Wood or McKenzie every day over Acres. Identifying and offloading average players like Acres was a major hurdle for the club on the road to improvement.

I agree that we need a midfielder (Taranto), but we are fine with ruckman. Even if Ryder retires at the end of the year, Heath will be ready by then. We also have Campbell and Hayes and of course Marshall. And from what I hear, Xerri is still on our radar.

Probably right, but I’ve been trying to keep it a secret. Enjoying the club flying under the radar
