Re: Gillon to stand down
So he should after the Ryder decision. Him stepping down was quicker than I thought after the MRP CALL.

Re: Gillon to stand down
He's been very well remunerated but has earned his money.
Did a fantastic job in the last two years to keep the completion going. He has led from the front rather than the rear.
Society's phobias have been met head on.
The AFL has set the agenda despite the laggards and recalcitrants (our club being one of them for a long time).
The AFLW has simply taken off despite all the nay-sayers.
Racism is being addressed but the usual suspects still fight back.
AFL is not just a business, it's part of our culture like little else. It's the oil that greases the multicultural wheel.
What better way for him to go out than on GF day with a Saints win.

Here's a crazy idea out of left field. Gillard is suppose to be a St.Kilda supporter, offer him the Presidency for next year.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Good for Gil, he can devote his time to bringing his family along every week to barrack for the Saints. A very likeable bloke. Who can fill his shoes?
Hmm. Matt Finnis, come on down!

Bad news for us no longer having a Saints supporter as boss.

Re: Gillon to stand down
I used to see McLachlan as not much more than a baggage carrier for the toxic Demetriou and a pretty face for press conferences. But, quite quickly, he grew into the job and has done extremely well IMO. I'm sorry to see him go.

Re: Gillon to stand down
I don't think it makes that much difference: the CEO has to be very cautious in their dealings with the club they personally support.
Did Ross Oakley do much for us when he was VFL CEO? (I guess you could argue that he didn't try to tighten the screws any further and force us to fold, which perhaps someone like Demetriou might have been tempted to do: but I actually doubt it.)
Gillon appears to have helped us behind the scenes in reforming our club administration. We are now much, much better run than we were 8 years ago.
But at the end of the day, as long as we don't have an openly hostile person at the top of the AFL, we don't need to worry too much about them: our problem svery much belong to us. At least we now have an administration that is doing a good job at addressing them.

As the departing CEO, he can issue Paddy with a pardon. I’m sure it’s in the AFL constitution.

If the current President was doing a poor job that would hold some merit OR is he on a fixed term & that term is up?Bruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Tue 12 Apr 2022 2:07pm Here's a crazy idea out of left field. Gillard is suppose to be a St.Kilda supporter, offer him the Presidency for next year.

MRP was the Match Review Panel
It is now the MRO - Medical Report Outcomes

Re: Gillon to stand down
Grant Thomas?!?! Hahaha no way the Boys Club at AFL House would want him!
Lethlean is going to be our club CEO next year.
And hopefully Eddie isn’t in contention.
It’s apparently going to be out of Benny Gale, Andrew Dillon and Travis Auld to replace Gil.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Re: Gillon to stand down
Lethlean should apply for the AFL CEO. Gill should become the CEO of St Kilda. A sliding doors situation.

Re: Gillon to stand down
I want Lethlean to stay at St Kilda and finish the job. He’s been good for the club.
On Gilligan, I’ve come around to him after being less than impressed with the AFL’s woke politics and virtue signalling at times.
He’s done a terrific job through the pandemic. Importantly he is a Sainter and seems a likeable fella. Hope he stays close to the club.

He's Cyprian not Greek and yes, he is incredibly dodgy and fraudulent. Lucky not to have been charged by the Courts.
The AFL will never have him back.

Re: Gillon to stand down
He is resigning so that he can go to the footy over the next 5 or so years in full saints gear and enjoy our success without backlash from arsehole clubs like the filth, brown baggers and the druggies.bigcarl wrote: ↑Tue 12 Apr 2022 7:48pm I want Lethlean to stay at St Kilda and finish the job. Re: Gillon to stand down
Did I hear John Ralph say Ahmed Fahour was a candidate for AFL top job?
You friggin kidding me???
The guy ransacked Aust Post took $4m a year in salaries and left with over $10m payout
Did the deal with his mate Demetriuo to get his brother (gutless sniper) the multicultural affairs job at AFL….before he bashed a player infield behind play
Oh…..and at the time the AFL appointed a multicultural affairs manager it just so coincided with Aust Post “sponsoring” multicultural efforts at AFL …I’m sure I know where the bulk of that sponsor money went…
Oversaw the NAB insider trading rort era then took a near $20m bonus - was asked later once what happened came to light to repay that but refused
Utter garbage swilling grub of the highest
Tried taking over at Carlton but ran into people with deeper pockets
Always tries to get his name into these roles but honestly the guys a scumbag and could not be seriously considered

Re: Gillon to stand down
Big Mac has done an outstanding job, good on him for stepping down after 8 years, he's run his race and it's time for new blood to ensure the AFL continues to thrive as one of the most successful and respected sporting organisations in the world.

Re: Gillon to stand down
Other media speculated candidates are, Christine Holgate, Kylie Rogers, Kylie Watson-Wheeler and Jayne Hrdlicka.Sainternist wrote: ↑Tue 12 Apr 2022 5:55pmIt’s apparently going to be out of Benny Gale, Andrew Dillon and Travis Auld to replace Gil.
A can of worms trying to pronounce Jayne's surname correctly.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

“impossible to replace”
Well, in the world of business no one, absolutely no one, is impossible to replace
Companies are perpetual
Human beings are temporary
Everyone is replaced at some point
And fresh ideas and renewed focus is bought to the table - for the better
