Saints injuries ahead of round 4.
From afl.com.ah
" Jack Billings Hamstring 3-4 weeks
Nick Coffield ACL Season
Hunter Clark Shoulder 2-4 weeks
Jarryn Geary Concussion 1 week
Dan Hannebery Calf 6-8 weeks
Jack Higgins Concussion 1 week
Zak Jones Personal leave TBC
Updated: April 5, 2022
Early prognosis
Higgins and Geary both suffered concussions on Sunday and will be unavailable this weekend. Higgins was substituted out of the Saints' win over Richmond, while Geary suffered his head knock early in the VFL, which will delay his AFL return just when he was on the cusp of returning to Brett Ratten's side following a shoulder reconstruction. Billings suffered a setback with his hamstring and will take a bit longer to recover than first expected. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera tweaked his ankle late at Marvel Stadium but has been cleared of damage. Hannebery underwent calf surgery last week and isn’t expected back until the second half of the season. - Josh Gabelich

Re: Saints injuries ahead of round 4.
Would Ratten actually consider playing Geary & Hannebery if they were fit?
Little doubt the pace of the game has ramped up a gear or two this season, I think both would battle with the tempo.
I like Geary as on field coach at Sandy and Dan can quietly and gracefully retire.

Who would Geary replace?
Love ya Jarryn but time is up ..... maybe a farewell game after we have consolidated ourselves in the Top 4

If they’re in the best 22 yes
But I’d have to think Geary would need a COVID outbreak in the team to be best 22
Dan would just need to be match fit (as unlikely as that is!)
Up and running, he would be in the best 8 players

I’m not sure the current model of Dan Hannebery is best 22 let alone best 8.
In his prime he was elite, a star of the competition, but his prime was 6 -7 years ago.
Even if fit, nothing I’ve seen in the 15 games he’s played for the club makes me think he’d currently be top 8 at the club.
I think we need to look at the windscreen and not the rear view mirror when assessing Dan.

The only thing that will keep Gears out of the side is if they keep playing like they did for the last 1.5 quarters otherwise it will be a case of smash glass in emergency.
And Hanners walks straight back in if he ever gets fit.

Maybe but then that’s a mistake abd a coach not thinking bout our future
Geary should only play if 25 players get Covid

I agree that Jarryn will find it hard to get back in but most people overlook how well he has done in the past as an onfield leader. However, if our pace becomes consistent and everyone keeps developing their skills and teamwork, the selection panel will probably not consider him, especially while there are others are currently knocking on the door.

IMO, any of Geary, Billings, Clark or Hannebury would, if fully fit, dislodge one or both of Hayes and NWM from the current team.
But the question is totally moot right now. There will be other injuries and potentially first team players losing form before those decisions need to be made.

There are many occasions I disagree with BM
But his opinion on Hannebery I do agree with
Much outside noise is made re the quality of our midfield
Our midfield is quite reasonable and Hannebery will further improve it

Re: Saints injuries ahead of round 4.
It’s hardly a revolutionary thought that a fully fit and flying Hannebery would start in our midfield
He hasn’t been fit and firing for what… 6 years at this point.
At some point an assessment of a player has to include their actual ability to reach their potential… and for Dan that potential is low.
Another two that have similar’ish question marks developing IMO are Jones and Billings.
Both excellent players and essential to us when they’re fit and firing but how many excellent seasons have they had with the club? Always seems to be a problem with them every 4-5 games at most.
They have a couple of weeks where they look almost elite and then it’s injury, poor form, poor fitness, holiday or something
I reckon if we don’t get 12 good games from both in the back end of the season then my patience is close to exhausted with both

Hayes can't be dislodged by any of those.meher baba wrote: ↑Wed 06 Apr 2022 8:14pm IMO, any of Geary, Billings, Clark or Hannebury would, if fully fit, dislodge one or both of Hayes and NWM from the current team.

They're totally different body types to him, and different skill set.
Hayes is a big strong boy, who is a concreter by trade.
Tough, rugged, take-no-prisoners style, with great footy smarts.
Billings and Clark are IMHO private-school boys.
Skilful but no oppo ever looks over the shoulder when they're around
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

I disagree with a lot of people on this site not saying I'm always right but not always wrong . But I have always been against the Hannebery trade & pretty much been worse than I predicted . Even if he can get back on the park & play 15 games in the next 2 years which I very much doubt it will still go down as the biggest FU in our recruiting history & we have had a few but thats my opinion & you are entitled to yours & is your first name Ted ?
