Re: Caro’s arrow
In the short term when Hickey was in development and Dunstan was having a good first year, it actually looked like a good trade.
In the long run, an epic bust.

Re: Caro’s arrow
Melbourne have quite good form.
Neeld vs Pelchen has to be a close call
then again they did embrace tanking and I don't think we did. So perhaps we do hold the monumental stuff up record
but that last minute 50m penalty in the prelim against Hawthorn was a doozy.
Will always suspect we saved them from choosing Paddy, they owe us a big one for that.
So ok, no other clubs do stuff ups like us - just remembered Blight and Watters.
But that's all in the distant past......

Give me a while, I need to think about that one...nothing comes to mind immediately. The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 29 Mar 2022 3:02pm Are there any other clubs that make the monumental stuff up decisions that we do?

Melbourne taking Watts over Nic Nat, using picks one and two on Scully and Trengove.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Tue 29 Mar 2022 3:14pm Melbourne have quite good form.

Plenty of clubs stuff up, we just focus more on the Saints. Our main problem is that when we have a chance we don’t take it ie 91, 97, 2004-2010 so the bad decisions stand out more.

Re: Caro’s arrow
All clubs stuff up like that all.
Some off the top of my head:
Richmond
Tambling over Franklin, Chris Yarran
Hawthorn
Mitch Thorpe
Bulldogs
Jarred Grant
The draft is a guess not a guarantee just look at the history of the number one pick.

Hindsight queen.
Strategy was a failure but reckon she’s abusing her arrow.

Re: Caro’s arrow
At the time I defended the clubs decision to make that trade with a fellow supporter who said it was ludicrous.
I have since apologized to her and admitted she was right and I was wrong.

I don’t watch that show, but am curious who she fired her arrow at.

It was a retrospective arrow and was about the Ben McEvoy trade years ago.

Terrible trade, but what is the point of firing an arrow back in time ?

Re: Caro’s arrow
The exit of McEvoy and Brendon Goddard sent us straight to the bottom of the ladder
And cost us two leaders
Good strategy Chris Pelchen

Re: Caro’s arrow
Pretty easy to fire a retrospective arrow.
She really is irrelevant.
Worth noting we traded rucks in McEvoy, Stanley & Hickey and I think from the players selected or traded for in those deals only Hannebery remains on our list. So none currently in active service.
Fair to also state all ended up far better players at their new clubs than they were as Saints.

Re: Caro’s arrow
Never understood the trade. Get a decent ruck all clubs will hang on forever (Grundy mill X 7 years. What?)
Hindsight is tricky. To what extent did Clarko improve McEvoy. Or Horse Hickey? Could name many more who showed more after leaving the club. Even watching Daniels at Sydney on Fox retro replays hitting targets needs a rewind and double take.

Ruckman just get better with age
How does the senior coach improve a ruckman?
It’s just opportunities and experience
