Can we talk about Daniel
Picked up the paper yesterday and news was as expected, Sunday followed Saturday, Sun rose in the morning and Hannebery was injured again.
Surely this is the worst trade decision since Russell Greene was sent to Hawthorn for Mark Scott and Robert Mace. 2 good games in 4 seasons , and 15 games in 3 seasons and 2 games.
But that's ok, its just a set back and we will be working with Dan to get him through it and prepare in a few weeks to increase his training load.
Its time his Dad's mate , soon to be about new leader tapped him on the shoulder and said time to hang it up, get the club some cap relief and open a spot either for the future or mid season draft.

Greene was traded to the hawks for Scott and a nuff nuff called Tony King, who actually played 4 games and kicked 2 goals.
King later became Chief executive at the dees.
Mark Scott actually played 34 games and kicked 110 goals. In the reserves he kicked well over 650 goals in 150 plus game.
Shocking trade all the same. Up there with Ian Stewart for Billy Barrot. for sheer madness.

Re: Can we talk about Daniel
I'm on record as a long-time supporter of the decision by the club to recruit Hannebery and always thought he would eventually come good and become a much needed on-field leader as the team is not exactly blessed in that regard...
But I am coming around to agreeing with the increasing clamour by supporters that Dan has reached the end of the road and should retire forthwith - we may as well tap old faithful Jarryn Geary on the shoulder at the same time and concentrate on the further development of the handful of talented kids that are waiting in the wings.

In terms of experience the current St Kilda List is lead by Ryder on 269 games, then Hannebery on 223 then Geary on 207, Hill on 190, Ross on 160 and Billings on 144
The game numbers are as of the start of the season
In all, at seasons start, we had 12 players who had passed the 100 game milestone
Successful sides have a core of experienced players - and premier experienced players at that
St Kilda does not have that core hence recruiting Hannebery, Ryder and Hill
This goes back to the demographic of the List I have referenced in another thread
And it says why Hannebery, Ryder and Hill are central to the success of this developing List, including by their presence
These players are experienced professionals and we trust in their professionalism and the support they receive from the Club in getting them on the field and keeping them on the field
Our List demographics says they are vital
Our on field performances says they are vital

I can see Daniel waving goodbye
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Can we talk about Daniel
Were Daniel Boone and Pat Boone really happy as a couple, because appearances can deceive.
I think Hanna’s will put in some games in the second half of the season. I’d expect six games. He’d still be top 22 if fit, which unfortunately isn’t saying all that much.

He was good wasn't he? Breaking tackles, taking the oppo on and his left foot delivery was excellent. He may be finding his feet at that level. 61 games. Could finish up a 200 gamer.

Re: Can we talk about Daniel
Tis a shame about Hannas. He is a great guy and from speaking to him earlier in the year at a training session, he is desperate.
His body is absolutely cooked. Old man injuries that cant even stand up to training load.
Yes, it was a bad trade. Yes, it has cost us bucket loads. Yes, we would have been spending that same amount of the cap on other spuds.
I'd keep him going to the end of his contract, unless there is just absolutely no hope.

Just love how our good ordinary players (as Jack Dyer called them) are going.
McKenzie, Battle and my current favorite Tasmanian, Webster.

Re: Can we talk about Daniel
I assume there is no way to just terminate the contract now?
Or mid year?
Players can quit mid contract, can’t clubs? Or are St Kilda too gentlemenly?
I s’pose we just let him keep his dignity and continue paying him.
But just think, we could buy another spud mid season..no?

Yeah, let’s talk about something different for a change, like the umpires.
