Re: Another great article on Ernie Merricks role
I wonder what a mentor tells a coach when the team is being eaten alive, such as was St Kilda vs Bulldogs last year.
We lost by 111.
And we won one stat very comfortably…hit outs!!! We killed it.
https://www.espn.com/afl/matchup?gameId=1128062
Fascinating to imagine what the options are in the midst of catastrophe unfolding…especially in May, at the time of the season when you hope the fine tuning has been made. Grim isn’t a good enough word.

They should put our man in there as Ratts advisor.. how on point he is here before the calamity…
..and remember folks, that was just 12 games ago!,

Re: Another great article on Ernie Merricks role
The term critical (as in criticise, not lend money) friend reminds me of a description of Richo's coaching style. Shudder.
Read article twice: to illustrate how dumb I am I still have little idea what Ernie's role is.
Often seems to me that people given undefined off line roles without direct outcome requirements go looking for issues to solve whether anything needs solving or not, whether it is critical (word play) or not and can be an unproductive distraction.
Guess we have lots of money and Rath thinks things could be better but not sure what, so lets go fishing. Not a vote of confidence in the Coach though, or is it?
I see it ending in tears or a whimper. Ratts didn't come to coaching yesterday and is very experienced, both in general life matters and AFL. If his job wasn't hard enough he now has Ernie hanging around to be "critical" - in the nicest possible way of course. Could we not just get Dal to follow Brett up to the coach's box and do the Roman thing of reminding Bret, in a whisper, he is mortal. Might be cheaper and slightly less annoying. Dal would not be needed after losses though, most of us supporters would do the reminding.

Perhaps that's his role, to pour the whiskey in the coaches box when we are going down!
