Who actually selects the side?
…and will that change in ‘22?
Just wondered after looking at that Bulldogs game last year…Highmore dropped, Geary picked.

Are you saying we shouldn’t have brought our captain back in? Highmore had been serviceable but not the intercept machine he became later in the year.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 13 Feb 2022 4:00pm …and will that change in ‘22?

Re: Who actually selects the side?
Me thinking it is some kinda meeting thing, where various coaches have their little speech and then the King Rat slams down his gavel on a butcher's board.
But I wonder ...anyone , everyone should based on our selections and our dreadful season.
Actually, Kosi, I appreciate what you say, but I agree with our fine commentator on YT, HIghmore should have been picked that day. Actually, the team selected that day wasn't that different to today's. (Obviously Lonie, McKernan and a couple of others like Gears might not be picked now...or Battle as a potential wingman), but Marshall was picked the weeks before when not ready?
That whole 111 point debacle deserves some attention, not bagging on players, but for the process etc.
12 games ago that was!

The selection group would be made of the match committee

Re: Who actually selects the side?
Wasn't going to say this, but it was me who chose that team. Ratts called me before the game, and I said, 'What ever you do, don't listen to the line coaches".
I told him that the method of segregating forwards, mids and backs into separate armies, with their own coaches does us no good.
He agreed, because players like Long, Battle, Billings, Hill and even Membrey do not get marked fairly, when their game play is spread across the map of the playing board.
Their figures get inflated. I said give Gears a go, cos he's captain. Gears promptly broke down in the game and was useless. HIghmore watched from stands in order to be taught a lesson as Footscray piled on the goals.
It was a terrible loss, and when we gave a way a fifty and goal, just as we kicked one against the tide, our season was sealed. I was fired. Ratts said, 'I don't wanna talk o you, you can go () yourself'.
And so now here we are.
I hope we crush teh Bullies this year.
They are truly a rival now. I know I say Carlton, but truth be told, it is fellow minnows North Melbourne and Footscray - both survivors, runts, alsorans and beggars, that we are in a fierce contest with.
